Hi all,
I posted a question about my Schweppie in the Cat Health forum regarding roundworm (Title: roundworm?) but part of the question was about food so I thought I'd pose it here.
I was feeding Schweppie Wellness Grain-Free canned and Orijen dry (Turkey and Chicken). But last week, he stopped eating for 2 days so I took him to the vet (at the animal hospital where I work). Schweppie of course, started eating the stinky a/d food offered to him. He spent the night and apparently, in the morning, had diarrhea (which apparently, is a sign of roundworm which he has). So the doctor said the food I was feeding him was too rich as his belly was full of gas. She suggested I feed i/d canned and dry.
As I am a strong opponent of Hill's and Medi-cal foods for various reasons, I did not buy the i/d. I instead bought a bunch of cans of different foods. These include: Felidae Chicken and Rice, Halo Turkey, Prairie Homestyle Beef and Liver Stew, By nature organics (don't remember the flavours), Eagle Pack Holistic Selects Chicken and something.... I didn't really want to go with foods with grains but I think that may be the way I have to go. He has had the Eagle Pack, the Homestyle and the Felidae and seems to like the Homestyle the best out of the three. But I haven't had him on it long enough to really tell if it's too rich for his tummy. I have tried raw with him but he won't have anything to do with it. I would rather feed him canned and dry as it is a bit cheaper but I know canned is better so if that's the only way to help him, I'll feed him 100% canned.
So, my question is, do any of you know of any good high quality foods that aren't too high in fat, too rich etc. and good for sensitive tummies? Should I be selecting a food with a single source protein? I know venison is low in fat but he doesn't like it. (I tried the Natural Balance Venison and green Pea) What should I be looking for? Could it be that the protein is too high?
Sorry for the longwinded story...but thanks in advance for your help!
