Thought I would just start my own thread here. I was on the other thread.

I think I am going to find someway to fix Angel up in my son's bedroom cause we can close the door in there, at least for the time being.

Now, I just thought of something. We are leaving on June 5 and won't be back until the 8th. I pray she doesn't have them while we are gone but I will have a neighbor check on her and stuff. I actually have one that lives across the street from me that is a Shih Tzu breeder so she would be best capable of dealing with something if Angel should deliver while we are gone. I know Angel can stay in the house cause we were keeping her inside when she was in heat (apparently not long enough this last time).

Now, I do have a male cat (he is fixed). Do I need to be careful of him?

I am bringing a empty box home today and cutting up t-shirts to put all inside for Angel to fix. Now, should I show her this box and put her in it? or let her find it herself? What is one of my other cats finds it first and gets in it...will that make Angel not go in there?

thanks everybody!

Hi Cathy,

As long as she has soft bedding, you really don't need to cut up tee-shirts
I do that, but only because the feral cats have a really strong nesting instinct and the momcats like to have stuff to dig and root around in the place they choose to give birth at. I think because in the wild, they use leaves, grasses, straw, and the like, and they dig down to get the cold earth scooped away and make a nice warm burrow.

If you can let her discover the box on her own, perhaps scent it with catnip a little bit, that will help. If she finds it, she will feel safer there, and may decide having the babies in it would be great. You just want the box in a quiet dark, out of the way place.

I would keep the other cat away from her as well as away from the birthing box. Don't be surprised if she has the kittens somewhere else. Sock drawers are mighty popular in this house!

Oh Lord, sock drawers.....my son can not keep any of his drawers closed!! I can remember my very first cat when she had her litter of kittens (now this was back when I was probably 13 and I'm now late 30's) she actually had them the back seat floor board of my brothers car!!! It was so funny and she cleaned up everything, you could not even tell she had had them kittens except they were there nursing on her.

I guess what I will do is when I get the box ready and put it in his room I won't exactly put her in the box but maybe put her at least in his room and let her find it, catnip I will try, thank you. I hate to keep her closed up in the bedroom but I have no choice, this is not a trip we can cancel because my daughter is the flower girl in this wedding!!! Okay, now I'm freaking out and don't need to be......breathe Cathy breathe.......hehe

Hi Cathy,

It's amazing how well cats do without us "helping" birth kittens. I know everything should be just fine. Go to the wedding and have a great time as the breeder should be able to handle anything that comes up.

Thanks Teresa for the encouragment. I guess I just worry a little bit more with Angel because of what she has been through. She was not healthy at all when I got her and it took a long time for her to even purr or make any noise and she is still kinda skiddish on some things. I'm sure she will be just fine, just me worring like a good Momma.

Talk to ya'll tomorrow, gone home now.

Kittens do or do not require shots like puppies? Also, my neighbor across the street said that when she starts producing milk than it should be delivery time in the next 2 weeks.

Yes Kittens require shots just like puppys. Many vets have shot clinics with lower prices on certain days. Please check for these clinics to get the best price. Good luck with the kittens!

Besides calling my vet, what shots do they need? I don't remember having to do shots back (way back) when I had litters before. I know rabies but what else? Are these mandatory like puppy shots are? Is there a web site you know of where I can look?

Thanks,
Cathy
