i think the title says it all. the farm cats got spayed/nuetered recently, the males are doing fine, but since i have never had a female cat that has gotten spayed before, i was wondering if the spay site looks okay. most of the cats have a bit of a lump on their stomachs. is that normal? i could try get a picture tonight if you want. i just don't know what its supposed to look like. the girls all got done about a week ago. the rest went in yesterday.

all of mine had this 'lump', too. my vet said it was normal, unless it got bigger, red or hot &/or tender to the touch.

thanks it does seem to be just a small bump or whatever you want to explain it as. i never actually saw what they looked like until two days after they were spayed, the person that i brought them too would keep them for few days before and after the S/N, and would bring them down to a place that did farm/feral cats for free.

There's no place like home
Any surgical incision will leave scar tissue as it heals. It is normal for that tissue to feel somewhat hard until it is absorbed by the body. That can take 6 months to a year. What you want to look for is what others have described - redness, oozing and feeling of warmth. This is a sign of infection and will require a prompt return to the vet.

Mild swelling and perhaps even slight bruising is normal in an incision site. What you need to look out for is extreme heat around the incision and any pus like discharge or more than a small amount of blood. Otherwise, your baby should heal nicely!
