My daughter fell off an inner tube yesterday snowmobiling. The Doctor in the Er told us her hand was broken. He put a half plaster cast on, it was swollen. He said to come back this morning and get a full fiberglass cast put on. This morning a different Doctor was there, he said it isn't broken. He put a splint on it. He is sending the x-rays to be read. Now I guess we wait and see.

Good heavens! Did the doctor yesterday not do an x-ray? Surely they can read an x-ray for heavens' sake! Keep us posted.

Doctors usually don't read or even see x-rays, CT, or MRIs. They get the report from a radiologist (of which skill varies greatly) and just go from that to make the diagnosis.

I've had very obvious arthritis show on x-rays, yet a doctor didn't even acknowledge it, and I've had radiologist not include obvious things in their reports - it took a very sharp eyed doctor to notice.

Wait for the radiologist's report or have her see a specialist for her wrist. Hopefully they can get the diagnosis correct so that there are no issues with it healing.

X-rays were taken yesterday. both doctors are looking at same X-rays. I asked they be send to be read by a radiologist. I have no idea how one can say it's definately broken, and they other say he sees nothing.

Skills vary! One may be better at reading them. Hopefully a third opinion does clear this matter up.
