Hello Everyone,

I have a just over 3 year old blue point Himmy. She had a litter back in 2007 and this May the kittens will be 2 years old. She has come back into heat since and was breed but nothing has taken. Any ideas why she is not coming into heat as often or why the breedings have taken ?

It could be many reasons. I've heard of this problem with Persians/Himis. Not sure why it happens. I would suggest you just spay her.

Though I don't know much about breeding, I'd say this, too. Just because you don't want to pass on any possible reproductive issues she may have. I figure that if an animal can't get pregnant, there's a good reason for it.

1. Has she been bred to different studs?
2. Has she been examined by a fertillity expert?

If she's bred and doesn't get pregnant it could be her or the stud so several studs need to be tried before you determine that the problem is the female. Once you've established the female is the problem she need's to be examined by a fertility expert.

She could have some kind of disease in the reproductive organs. It was a long time since she had her litter and in a female cat lots of things can happen in the reproductive tract in just 2 years. Endometriosis, cysts on the ovaries, low grade infection in the uterues etc. If there is such an underlying cause it needs to be treated, if treatable at all. If it isn't treatable she needs to be spayed.

However, if nothing explains her fertility problems she should be spayed due to the fertility problems. That's not something you wanna pass on to the next generation.

Longhairs are known for having less frequent heats. She's probably just fine!
