OK...... I have two big male cats and we are moving into my dads apartment.

THing is, he has a dog. They will be seperated by a door for the first month or so. But Im guessing my two little buddies will want to be in the rest of the apartment too. They will be able to lounge in 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. The dog will be in the living room, dining room and kitchen.

So..... one.... Im wondering if i should do anything special for the 1 hour road trip with the cats. Two..... what should I do when I first introduce them to their new pad? Three..... how should I handle them regarding the dog?

The dog will NOT be in the apartment for the first 2 days the cats are there.

My suggestion is, when you first move, keep them in a single room with their food/water/litter and let them get acclimated. If it smells strange (it will - the dog) the cats will be a little freaked out most likely. After a day or so, open the door and let them explore on their own time.

The dog. Is it a small dog? Large dog? Does it have a prey drive? A small dog will be less threatening, but will still freak them out at first - most likely anyway - Prey drive is touchy, if the dog has a high prey drive the cats may get chased. They need to have a safe place to go. It seems like they'll have a couple places where they can hide from the dog, that's good. After that, you may just have to feel it out. Don't force the cats and dog to interact or explore more than they're comfortable doing.

Does that help?

Not really necessary - just make sure they are in their carriers, and the carriers secured by a seat belt. 1hr is short enoughTwo..... what should I do when I first introduce them to their new pad?You should setup a little room for them, where they can be confined for a couple of days while they get feeling safe again. Your bedroom should be ideal. Put their food and water bowls in there, their litter boxes, and toys, blankets, and other things that they are used to use in the old place. Don't wash their blankets or beds before you move. Spend as much time as you can with them in this room. Since it is only one hour away, I would go there and move your stuff first, so you don't need to do while the cats are in the room. A Feliway diffuser will go a long way in helping them keeping relaxed. Three..... how should I handle them regarding the dog? Sorry - no idea about this one -

Great - what kind of dog is it anyways?

Thanks folks! Its an Australian Sheppard. Not sure about a prey drive. The dog is VERY friendly though. He is about 75 lbs. and 12 years old.

Feliway diffuser
Never heard of it. Has anyone actually used it?
