It is probably a benign cyst. Good luck
I was going to ask the Doc about that. Wickett gets so stressed out going to the vet and this will be the first time he's going under since his neuter. I think it will also be good for him the Frankie will be there with him so he'll have some one familiar there when they wake up.

Just my 2 cents but if I were in your shoes, I can't imagine waiting 3 weeks to have this properly checked out and I'd seriously question any Vet who, without having examined things could suggest that it's fine for you to wait until the 27th. Cats 101 - when you find a lump anywhere on a cat, you need to have it checked out sooner rather than later. A lump can be an abscess, a cyst, a tumor. To the person here who so assuredly told you "it's a cyst", that's highly dangerous advise to give on a cat health board. Not even the best Vet in the world could make a diagnosis over the internet!

that is it nothing serious. I have dealt with three lumps and each had a different outcome.

Petunia has a non-aggressive form of fibro-sarcoma. We removed the lumps but the cancer didn't return.

Much had a pre-cancerous growth between her shoulder blades. The surgery for this was a lot more aggressive but she has been 7 years cancer free.

Carly just had a lump removed which turned out to be a cyst.

So I personally get them in as soon as the lump was found. But keep an eye on Wickett and get him in if there is any change in the lump.

I didn't see where anyone "assuredly" told me it was a cyst? Plus, I know this is an internet based cat forum and those posting are not medical professionals. Thanks.

Unfortunately I'm unable to get him in now. Time constraints with prior obligations and such but I am keeping a VERY close eye on him and nit just the lump but his eating/waste and general behavior.

Cleo had a reaction to her rabies shot, which was a hard, cyst like formation that rolled around when I manipulated it. It was there a long time (I felt it for a couple of months.) I made an appointment to have it removed because I'm a very paranoid mommy! I checked it the weekend before the surgery appointment, and it had become so tiny, it was difficult to find. We canceled the excisional biopsy appointment. My vet feels that hers was a reaction to the rabies shot, and since she also has CRF, my vet doesn't recommend Cleo to get them any more (thankfully, Michigan doesn't require them!)

I will keep Wickett in my prayers that it is something totally benign, that is easily taken care of!

Well not to scare you but a year ago I found a hard but movable grape-sized lump on my cat and he was immediately seen by the Vet. Vet was too passive, told me "let's wait for 2-4 weeks and see if it gets bigger." By 2 weeks it was twice the size and becoming more deeply connection to the tissue below. I had to insist on surgery NOW. It turned out to be fibrosarcoma (cancerous tumor) and due to it's size he wasn't able to remove the tumor plus enough surrounding good tissue in all areas.....and it came back in a month with a vengeance. Surgery #2, he removed way more tissue. He was fine for 3.5 months and then I found a new small lump. Due to the type of tumor and aggressive nature of it, surgical removal was pointless. The tumor grew and 2 new ones grew and they all morphed together........growing to the size of half of a baseball (if you cupped your hand over) in 2 places. Sadly, I had to let him go on Feb 14.

What I'm trying to share is that any Vet who thinks it's "okay" to just wait 3 weeks to examine a lump is .........well, questionable. If something is cancerous, time is of the utmost essence. But if you have other commitments and such....

Actually, the advice was to keep an eye on it - if it's getting larger, I'm sure Meaghan will get Wickett to the vet asap! I'm so sorry your vet didn't impress upon you the urgency of getting kitty back there with the lump growing that fast.

Basically the same thing happened to me with my Scottish fold and her growth was very agressive. She also had Fibrosarcoma and went through surgery and it came back with a vengence and then she had her rear leg amputated to try and save her. Sadly we had to let her go too. When I first went to the vet they told me to keep an eye on it because it could be a fatty cyst. I wish I had been more agressive with the vet.

The food lady: I am so sorry you had to go through this

Sending Vibes to Wickett that this is nothing serious

I check every morning and there has still been no change at all. It's the same size, place, mobility, everything. His behavior hasn't changed any either. We even set up the nursery this weekend and he's acting/eating/eliminating as normal. Thanks for asking Laurie! Hopefully we'll have an answer next week.

Yeah, Ming Loy still has that cyst in her neck. It's already been biopsied, and it is basically like lymph tissue - it's not a fatty cyst. We just need to decide with the vet whether or not it should come out. Our main issue is risk of infection or something if it breaks - because she's handicapped, she's not good at getting down off of things and it is a risk.

Hope it's just a fatty cyst and they take it out (if they need to) during the dental.

to you and
to Wickett!

Well, good news. The vet thinks Wickett's lump is just a bit of scar tissue (probably from Frankie reminding him who's boss). He told me to keep and eye on it for any changes but as of right now it's no real cause for concern. I needed that good news after hearing how much their teeth are costing me!

I'm trying not to laugh at the way you wrote your post, because we just took Spooky for her dental, and I feel your pain!

GREAT to hear the good news!

I'm glad the vet didn't find any problem with the lump. And I also know your pain as I had 2 that had a dental on Wednesday.

I just found a lump on Church's side so I clicked on this topic... I am trying to remember where they gave him his rabies shot because it is near one of the places they often give vaccinations which worries me! I had two dogs die of cancer within 3 months of each other (in August and October) and my last cat also died of cancer so any type of lumps worry me a lot. It's probably just a cyst but we'll see what my vet says.
