The Lackawanna SPCA had filed animal abuse charges against Lackawanna County ACO Fred Grasso for shooting an "abandoned" mama kitty & 2 of her kittens because he feared they had rabies & because they were "feral". 4 kittens survived by running under a dryer.
The mama kitty had been abandoned in an apartment complex and lived in a laundry room basement. She was fed by various neighbors, who looked out for her & the kits. She would make the rounds visiting daily.
Judge Richard Scott ruled on the side of the ACO that the cats were feral and that the ACO had reasonable fear for his safety because the cats "came at him hissing" so he believed they were rabid.
But the dead kitties were NOT sent to the state lab to be tested for rabies, even though 4 other members of their group remained in the location (supposedly continuing the threat to public health)
PUH-LEASE!!! Can either the ACO or the JUDGE expect the public to buy that??
I can't figure out which action is worse - allowing that ACO to keep his job or a JUDGE letting a criminal off so blatantly, and disregarding the authority of the SPCA!!!
Is it too late for anyone to do anything
