We've had two male kitties with us for just over two months now. Today, we received a call from a friend who does kitty rescue, and she may have found a home for one of our cats.

I know it's sometimes difficult to adopt them out as a pair, but I feel so guilty about separating them. Our boys are 6 months old, love to cuddle and play together, and cry when they're separated. One of them took so long to adapt to being indoors, I'm afraid that he'll be scared and lonely without his brother.

My feelings are clouding my good judgement. I just want to do what's best for these cats, but I'm having a difficult time being objective.
Should I let them go to separate homes? Please help.

I know how difficult it can be to separate closely bonded littermates, but it's often what's necessary to get them into homes. I recently had to separate the two 6-month-old littermates I've been fostering - Buffy and Brody. Buffy was adopted first and I still have Brody. Right before she was supposed to go to her new home, I found the two of them curled up together in their kitty bed. It was heartbreaking to have to pull Buffy away to put her in the cat carrier. Cats are pretty adaptable, though, and both are doing just fine. Buffy was adopted into a home with another older kitten and they're getting along well. Brody cried for his sister the first night she was gone, but is doing great now and has been having fun getting to know my crew. I'm hoping when he's adopted, it will be to a home with another cat as well.

So, try not to worry too much. Your kitties will be fine.

I know how hard it is to part with the kittens.. Just 2 1/2 weeks ago i took my 2 6 month male kittens to a shelter.. And i feel so guilty and i have cried daily over missing them.. One was adopted yesterday leaving the other behind and now i feel even guiltier.. Im happy that one is out of a cage.. and sad for the other one still in one.. If i could have found homes for them myself i would have.. I have 3 other litters of kittens now grown.. out of 10 kittens i only found a home for 1

Thats how i ended up being owned by 13 other cats..

I know, it's funny because I replied to your thread. I told you that you had done what was best for the cats, but I'm finding it difficult to take my own advice!

Hey, I remember you now.. You replied 2 times to my heartbreak situation.. It will be 3 weeks ago in 2 days that i took mine to the shelter and not one day has gone by that i havnt cried over them.. Well i havnt cried yet today.. but im on the verge now talking about them.. The problem with my separation from them was that i have the mama.. so i had been with them since birth.. I didnt find them homeless and they never were.. Heres what i know with my 13 other cats is that only 2 of them could not live without each other, they are brothers but not from the same litter.. 2 other cats have nothing to do with any of the others, and prefer to be left alone, they have hissy fits if another cat tries to sniff them..
Oh the torture we put ourselves through with this cat stuff is enough to make us crazy

I agree with the others.

But a last shot: is it possible to talk with the adoption-home? Perhaps they arent that much against adopting two, when they get to know the advantages... (=keeping two cats is in fact easier then having one cat... ESPECIELLY if they are good friends...).
