I have a female cat that is about 5 to 6 years old. I have had her 4 years got her as a stray. She was very friendly and cuddlely. soon tho we found it she as pregnate. She had her kittens and we kept 3. We had her spayed and since then she really doesnt want anything to do with us. if you rub her tummy she yowls like she is in pain and in fact you can rile her up real quick. she never sits on your lap even if you pick her up. but if you pet her when she is on the ground she seems to eat it up. I did take her to the vet as soon as I noticed she would holler when you rub her stomach. I took her there and couldnt duplicate the symptons for the vet, I guess she was scared of the vet and just sat there quietly

It is common for cats to dislike being rubbed or touched in the tummy area, so I would not force it on your cat.

My little girl was picked up as a stray when she was about 3 years old - clearly she had had a home, since she was front declawed. Anyway, Dharma is very loving, and will even wake me up when she wants some petting, but I cannot hold her and she has not once sat on my lap. She does flop over and let me pet her, even on her tummy, but only for a few light strokes. A lot of cats simply aren't fond of being held or of tummy pats.
