Callie, my 13 yo cat, went to the vet today to have her rabies shot(required by TX, but I got the 3 yr variety), her teeth cleaned, her geriatric blood panel and a urinalysis to check her kidney function and levels. Since she was going to be knocked out, and because she has a history of build-up of gunk in her ears due to allergies, we had her ears flushed out. This is what the vet discovered.
It's a wax plug (eventho it looks like a tick) and it was deep in her ear canal. It's a combination of ear wax and dead skin that isn't able to flush out on its own because her allergies keep her ear canal inflamed. I'm so glad we got her ears flushed and got this taken care of!
