I was at a friends house and the subject of "Good Ol Days" came up. We had so much fun remembering all the things from wayyy back. I know I'm dating myself but here are some of the things I remember when I was a kid:

-Daisy or gum wrapper chains
-Open windows bc there was no AC
-Sunday drives with mom and dad
-Drive-in movies, they even had little heaters
-Stores closed on Sundays
-Pres Kennedy's funeral procession on TV
-Blonde wood TV's with 6 channels
-Tuning and channel knobs on TVs
-Party lines on phones
-Neighborhood kids all drinking from 1 outdoor garden hose
-My brothers playing 'flip cards' with baseball cards
-Viewmasters with 3 Mickey Mouse slides
-Penny candy
-No locks on bikes and not having to lock your car
-33 and 45 vinyl records
-Dime or 5 & 10 cent stores
-Lemonade stands
-Paper dolls
-Saving Eagles stamps and S&H Green stamps
-Milk in glass bottles
-McDonald hamburgers were 15 cents
-The 1st televised landing on the moon
-Wall telephones with phone cords
-Transister radios - AM only
-A spanking was not considered child abuse
-Gas station attendents who pumped gas and cleaned windshields
-Light dimmer on the floor of cars
-The Mickey Mouse Club
-Penny loafers
-Hi-Fi's
-Steak & Shake when they had curb service with metal trays
-Roller skates with keys

This took me 15 minutes lol I know there's lots more.
Any one else like to share any memories?

Ruh roh. I remember most of those also, and you do have a great list!

Putting playing cards in the spokes of your bicycle wheels to make noise.
AM radio's top 10.
Knee high socks and dresses for school.
Sitting in the back of the station wagon without seat belts.
Walking to school, church and the store (mom didn't have a car).
Root beer floats from an old fashioned ice cream shop (complete with penny candy).
Pulling weeds for a nickle a bushel.
Working for allowance and then saving half of it.
Shoveling your neighbors snow for free because they were "elderly".
The Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
Saddle shoes.

How about....

Playing outside until the street lights came on
Playing in the sprinkler
Listening to the baseball game on the transister radio (under the blankets at night so Mom & Dad wouldn't know!)
TV test pattern
Aluminum ice cube trays (with the lever that you pulled to get the ice cubes out)
Hula Hoops
Gumby and Pokey
Little Chatty Cathy (I still have mine!)

laying in the tall grass, never worrying about ticks or other bugs
trying to catch bats at dusk
catching lighting bugs
listening to the tree frogs as I drifted off to sleep on the screen porch
riding on the tailgate of the station wagon all the way to the dump and back (it was about four miles one way). My sister fell off once and Daddy didn't hear us yelling for a mile or so. My sister wasn't hurt but she was mad!
Carrying water in a big metal bucket to my horse in the winter. I wish my arms were still that strong!
"Honeydipping" - this was in the days before the EPA
picking strawberries and making myself sick because I ate so many. I love strawberries
Using the branches of the willow tree for a swing

I miss penny candy so...nothin like going to the store with a nickel and actually getting a few candies.

Where I used to live (Paso Robles, CA) there is a new store that opened up that deals in old candy and confections...candy cigarettes, those candy dots on paper, stuff I grew up with...remember Flicks? I hadn't had those since I was about 10 (1978). They came in a cardboard tube.

I remember going out on adventures on my bike when I was about 8, not just down the block, but around the neighborhood.

-JC Penney TOUGHSKINS pants...in corduroy!

I can relate to almost all of those mentioned. I think it's sad that kids can't be like we were when we were growing up. Kids are so protected nowadays. Although it's rightfully so due to the prevalence of bad things out there, I just think that alot of it is blown out of proportion.

Anyhoo...keep em comin, I like this!

Curious...do they still sell caps? They were rolls of paper that you smacked individually on the concrete with a rock or hammer and they popped. Sounded like firecrackers.

Those were fun. I have no idea if they still sell them, haven't seen them in years.

How about Lawn Jarts? I found a set at an antique store for $10 and immediately snatched them up.

-Tv Westerns like Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke and Bonanza

-Chiller Theater on tv, mom use to let us stay up late to watch on Friday nights
-Magnetic football game that vibrated the little players across a metal table
-Straws were stiff red and white paper
-American Bandstand
-Ironing your hair with an actual iron
-Pay phones - it use to cost a dime to call out and you spoke to an operator
-Chinese firedrill was where you stopped your car at a red light and everyone got out and switched seats

What about that toy called "Clackers". It was two balls on strings that you'd bounce together. If you got them going, they would meet at the top of the arc, and the bottom of the arc. Man, it would hurt like heck when they smacked you in the arm! You'd be black and blue until you figured out the rhythm. I had a pair that was clear, with purple glitter inside the balls. Unfortunately, they were prone to explode after a while, and they were taken off the market. I had two or three pair of them...yeah, they all exploded eventually! I'm pretty sure that I drove my parents around the bend with all that clacking!!!

I had some friends that had those!

I also remember a game I don't remember the name of. It was a ball on a string attatched to a plastic ring that went around your ankle and it was the same idea as the hoola hoop. You hopped over the ball as it swung around.

Thanks. I'm feeling dang archaic right now.

Riding in the back of the pickup truck
A&W root beer in frosty glass mugs and the resulting brain freeze
Also root beer floats made with that root beer
Cruising the Parkway drive-in
Rotary dial phones
Captain Kangaroo
Bugs Bunny cartoons on Saturday morning
Eating molasses and butter on bread with my Grandpa H.

Remember the Toy Slinkey. I used to love putting that on the stairs and watching go down!!

What about the little ovens you could bake little cakes in. Mine was blue and it heated from a lightbulb. I guess the original ones are collectors items now!!
