I have three cats already and two of my friends are giving away their cats, two males who are both fixed, awesome cats. I want them but vet costs suck and also im moving into a place that i know i can have an pets I want, my uncle is my landlord lol. The problem is if I move, 5 kitties is a lot.
Any thoughts? I know a lot of you guys have tons of kitties.

You can always try what my G/F did to help cut the cost of vet bills. She got me to move in and got me excited about getting a kitty. Once I rescued Yuki, she then said she was all mine and so were the vet bills...lol.

What I would do is, get your friends to bring them to the vet now, make sure there all healthy and then start up a savings jar for the future

I would say that you would need to think more about could you afford the vet bills if one of them got sick.

Routine vet bills for yearly checkups and shots can be easily planned for. So can food and litter expenses. The real question is if you know you can afford their planned expenses would you be able to afford unplanned expenses. An unplanned expense can be anything from a $100 vet visit because one of them got a URI and you have pay for a vet visit and some antibiotics to someone ate a plastic baggie and now they have to remove it for $800.

If the answer is yes you can afford those unexpected costs then give those babies a home.

If you are worried about vet costs, do not take them on. I have 23 cats, but I would never take on more than I can afford. And we can afford the many we have now. (And a year ago with moved with them all!)
