I have 3 rescues, I would rescue more cats if vets were not so expensive!

I never actually got any of my 3 cats from the speca the funny thing is they all came to me! I found 2 of them in my yard and one of them in my friends barn!

For those of you who have over five cats how do u do it? U must be rich!

Its so depressing to see shelters littered and full of so many homeless cats & kittens

Unwanted dumped stray cats show up at humane society daily its so sad I just wish i could take a handful of them out of those cages!

Since the real reason I only have two cats, is because I don't think I could financially support anymore, then I guess my answer is YES! If they were free to feed and care for I would take shelters full home!

Not only cats, I'd have more animals in general. The other day a stray black lab came by with one of his eyes missing..I'd totally take him in if it wasn't for expenses...

omg i totally forgot about dogs! so many nice sweet dogs would be great house pets sitting depressed in the humane society! the cost of keeping 1 dog is double that of 1 cat

Vet care isn't so much an issue as food is for me. I'd LOVE to have my five pets (2 dogs/3 cats) on 100% raw, but the costs are prohibitive. I'd love just ONE more cat---the full sibling to my other 2 wirehairs. She's available and I think it would be so cool to have all the siblings together.

Sigh...

OMG yes i would have lots of cats!! We have 5 cats a dog and i pay for the horse... My parents cover the cat/dog vet bills which unless they get in a fight and have to have something done is not that expensive at least not compared to horse vet bills!!! I spent $207 just to get Joes teeth filed down (horse teeth get too sharp can cause horses to not eat, hurt etc..) and most was paying to tranquilize! (sp). If vet bills were cheaper a lot cheaper, i would have more cats and horses

I've had six at once and they got proper vet care. But as they aged, it did get very expensive. I'd probably be a moneybags
if I wouldn't have had cats, but they're worth it.

I've always only had 1 cat at a time. In 1998 I started to work 12 hour shifts and didn't think it fair that Chynna was alone for so long at a time. That is when I got Abby. However, they have not been friends. They only tolerate one another.

I've found the amount of work to look after 2 cats to be a bit overwhelming. Double the scooping, more cat hair to vacuum up, and both of them are so jealous of one another that it's hard for me to divide my time "fairly" between the 2 so that neither feel left out.

I suppose if I had someone else living here that could help take care of them and give them love and brushings, I would have more. But 2 is all I can manage as a single person.

I do think vet care is expensive, but that isn't the reason I don't have more cats. Lack of extra arms, a bad back and feelings of guilt in not being able to divide my time fairly is what really keeps me from having more than the 2 cats that I already have.

Am lucky that none of my cats had major vet issues. But hubby is the one that limits my cats. We do want to travel after retirement, so I agree that the pets have to be limited. I'd love to be able to have another Oci or two....

Over the river and through the woods...
With 4 dogs (3 large) and 7 cats it, plus outside cats, it isn't the vet bills that are breaking me, it's the FOOD bill! It's sad when I'm spending $150 for cat/dog food and only $40 for DH and me. I've actually started going through the deep freezer to find what is freezer burned and cooking that up for the outside cats. Heck, they are eating better than I am!

I will say our vet is very understanding and luckily right now the only cat that needs meds is Monster and they aren't that expensive.

It isn't really the vet bills, it is the amount of space hubby and I have. It is me, him, and two torties in 750sq ft. We barely have room for one litterbox (thank goodness they are willing to share) but if we had more than two kitties, we would need more litterboxes. Also, I just don't have room on my lap for another kitty. With two kitties and a laptop computer, my lap is full

Our place is smaller than yours, and we have right now: 1 Nova, 2 turtles, 1 hermit crab, and two foster babies that are looking more and more like foster failures.
Cleaning boxes, feeding, and medicating when necessary can be a bit much- SO works full time, and I'm a grad student. We're lacking in space and time more than anything.

I would love to have more kitties if I had the space! I have never had major vet expenses, and my girls are all pretty healthy. I live in 1000 sq ft. with another adult, and 3 kitties, and Stumpy goes psycho from the lack of space as it is.

I would maybe have 1 or 2 more.
Our vet bill is high.
We still owe 2000 on Care Credit from trying to save the 2 that died over a year ago.
Coco has high vet bills from her Crf right now.
I have been charging it also.

For me it's a combination of needing more room & needing more money for vets. I've got 4 cats, in a 400 sq foot appartment. There are 2 cats at the shelter right now that I would adopt in a heart beat if I could. I would also love to have a rescued greyhound.
