How do cats get FIP, and can you test for it? What can you do to prevent it? My kitties were all test for FIV and FELV but the vet never said anything about FIP. I honestly never heard of it before I came to this site and now i'm worried about it.

Val he probably didn't mention it, because your cats were ferals. It is rare in ferals, and is found more in cats that are kept in close quarters like shelters etc.
There are two types of this disease wet and dry, and probably your best bet would be to do a websearch on it. There are dozens upon dozens of websites out there with information about it. Just go to google and do a search for Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
