In August, I had Spot spayed. She was a little ferral I rescued with her baby. During the procedure, he noticed a strange white fluid in her abdomen that he told me was milk. I got the impression that he wasn't "really" sure. It sounded strange to me, but I, not having his education, believed him. Last week, Spot crossed the bridge due to Chyloperitoneum. That is a leakage into the abdomen of lymphatic fluid. Im thinking that is what he saw back in August, and it kept building till it became a terminal condition. Im really upset about this. He was out of town when I had to send Spot to the bridge, so another vet clinic took care of her. When I told the vet about what my other vet said about the fluid in August, she just looked at me kind of funny. I could tell she didn't think much of that diagnosis. Any thoughts out there? I wasn't in any shape to ask many questions on that terrible day, but now I want answers. I am going to call the second vet and see if she will see me for a quick question and answer period. I am agonizing over the loss of this sweet girl. I visit her grave behind our barn every day and still talk to her. Been thru this too many times tho. Time is the only healer, but I hope I can get some answers. Thanks. Shannon

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard and hurtful it is to lose a sweet little one. I think you are doing the right thing by a question and answer session. Someone may have some thoughts on this. You are in my Prayers.

Milk?!
I read part of your post off to my husband last night, who doesn't know much about medical stuff, and even the look on his face was disbelief that anyone would say something like that.

Just because someone has a degree does not mean they suddenly stop making mistakes. It's part of being human. If your gut instinct is that something isn't right, go with it and research/get a second opinion, etc.

I hope you can get some answers that help you find some closure.

I'm so sorry for your loss. As with everything in life, there are individuals more qualified than others. In any graduating class there are those at the top and those at the bottom. If you have any doubts or don't feel right about any diagnosis whether it's a vet or a human doctor, get a second opinion. I have a friend whose sister is a nurse. When their infant son was in the hospital one of the nurses was about to given an injection to their son. My friend's sister asked what was in the injection and how much. When the nurse told her, she refused to allow the nurse to do the injection until she called the doctor directly. She said the injection would have killed their son. Turns out she was right and when the nurse got in touch with the doctor he had prescribed far less than what she was going to give. Now if my friend's sister knew that as a nurse, you'd think the other nurse would have known it too!
