Ok, so I made a fruit salad years ago that was really good. I remember it was really good, but that's about it. That and I think there was supposed to be poppy seeds in the dressing but I left them out because I dont like them. I think the dressing was some kind of syrupy (syrupie...syrup-ee..?
) dressing (maybe made with juice?) but it could have been a yogurt dressing. I remember it was a light/thin dressing and not really sweet. Does anyone have any ideas, Im going to the grocery store and provided fruit isnt too expensive Im going to get a few things. I'm looking at recipezaar now but I thought I'd post here to see if what I've (strangely) described rings a bell

you can buy a fruit-based poppy seed dressing in grocery stores - there's some in my fridge right now.
the last fruit salad i made, i mixed the dressing w/sour cream so it was thicker & creamy.

I don't actually use a separate dressing on my fruit salad. I use a small can of pineapple tidbits with the juice as part of my fruit. The juice provides the acid necessary to keep other fruits from browning, and gives good flavour and moisture. I also spice lightly with nutmeg and allspice, and if it's for a special desert I add a splash of brandy (or any orange liqueur). If you want to add some poppy seeds that would work well. If you want creamy, why not garnish each serving with whipped cream or yogourt. Have fun. I love doing fruit salads!

I also love the cream cheese dipping sauces for fruit salad. That might be nice just mixed in with the fruit salad like a dressing. Hmmmm, I just might try that.

The best fruit salad I ever had was not entirely fruit, but it was so good I want to share it anyway! One Thanksgiving, the accountant at the company where I worked made a huge bowl of what she called "Autumn Harvest" salad:
red & green leaf lettuce
fresh apples, diced
fresh pears, diced
dried cherries, chopped
roasted walnuts (no salt)
roasted pecans (no salt)
poppyseed dressing
It was just wonderful!

We love fruit around here and I make a lot of fruit salads! Our favorite dressing by far is sour cream and honey mixed together - simple and delicious. I've found that it is better to have a salad with just a few ripe fruits than one with more fruit that isn't all ripe... I love adding pecans to fruit salads, too, mmm.

edit: I make sure to use different colored fruits in the salad, and a mixture of textures. Toss the apple pieces in lemon juice or pineapple juice to keep them from browning.

I have never tossed, I just throw in all different types of fruit
and I think it is divine. I do dip the fruit in organic vanilla yogurt with crushed walnuts or pecans on top... sooo good
