FORT BLISS, Texas – As soldiers stream home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the biggest charity inside the U.S. military has been stockpiling tens of millions of dollars meant to help put returning fighters back on their feet, an Associated Press investigation shows.

The whole thing sounds like a scam to me. I ran across these people (or a similar group- it was a long time ago) before and they tried to say I had buy into some sort of plan that had payments taken out of my account. My C.O. backed me up on the issue.

Sounds to me like the folks at the "top" may be skimming off of the "top". I smell a load of BS.

I've never heard of a "charity" doing loans. The organization is a poor excuse for a "charity". Is it common for a charity to invest funds that are supposed to be used to help people into the stock market? The whole thing sounds incredibly corrupt.

I check out charities before I give, using sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar. I want to know that my money is actually going to help the cause for which I'm giving it. 503(c) organizations are required to make their financials public.
