Is it just me, or is the forum very slow?

For the last 2 days, at least, the forum has been very slow. Anyone know why?

It's not just you

The forum has been really slow and I time out when going to the arcade. I thought I needed to defrag so I did maintenance and it didn't help.

The server responds with alacrity, but the pages render slowly, especially on long pages. There's a lot of jumping and jerking up and down and back and forth before posts can be read.

And I've got a theory: I just looked at the source for this page, and the CSS has an awful lot of font property declarations, most of them for the same fonts. It's my suspicion that these declarations are slowing things down, at least for me, because I have a huge number of fonts installed, and if the browser is looking for a font file for each of these declarations, it's going to slow it down; even if the font is cached.

Interesting theory. However, nothing has changed in the CSS files, and these are the files provided by Vbulletin, so I'm not sure it's the cause of delay.

it's been slow for me for about a week, i think. takes forever [seems like!] sometimes to load pages - then, other times, it's doing fine.

It's been doing it for me since around the time of the last software upgrade. Didn't think about it at first, just lived with it. Then this thread reminded me. Maybe it's not my theory; I'm no expert, but something changed. It didn't used to be this way. As one example, the right side of this message editor box I'm looking at as I type ... the border just beyond the smilies outline ... often sticks out beyond the enclosing box until everything else on the page settles down. In my own limited experience with debugging html/css that's a pretty good indicator something isn't right....it's not supposed to do that.

VBulletin programmers never make mistakes???

There's no place like home
It's also been very slow for me the last week or so. I time out quite often, but its not 100% consistent. I've tried to reboot and shut everything else on my computer down, but that doesn't help.

Edited: just now when I tried to post this reply, it took over a minute to respond.

It has been a little slow for me too but not too bad

The problem I`ve had a few times is when I try to go to the arcade it wont load because it says something like the compression rate is wrong and to contact the site
then I refresh and it loads. Weird.

It's been really slow getting in to the arcade this week.
It's nice that there are some new games to play there now but it has been hard to get in & play them off and on this week.

I've been having the same problem entering the arcade. Firefox gives me a content coding error. Something to do with compression? It takes several attempts to actually have the arcade page load.

It's taking forever to post. Not always, but the time isn't consistent. Navigating pages can also be time consuming.

I have been very slow, too. Pages loading and posting very slow, for several days now. Some other members have been as well, who havent posted in this thread.

I was just checking in to see if anyone else was having issues. I think I started noticing a problem with the last batch of games loaded. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Still having trouble getting into the arcade.
This is the error message I got when I just tried it a minute ago.

Content Encoding Error

Is this where I go to complain about the server being painfully slow? Just kidding, I don't really mind but it takes me back to the days of dial-up. Today I'm getting an error page that look like this:

Database error
The database has encountered a problem.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
Open the www.thecatsite.com home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back button to try another link.

The www.thecatsite.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

I've gotten 3 of these pages. Has anyone else been getting these?
