That certainly IS a strange looking grid. But, I tend to believe Google's explanation. It would seem that any movement of earth or sea that would have sunk a city that deep, would also have totally destroyed every trace of it.

Hmm, I always thought that Atlantis was just a myth. I don't think anyone ever proved it existed. I could be wrong

Atlantis used to be in Pegasus Galaxy. No wait.....
Sci Fi Network. Way to continue to kill off your best shows.

I was so tempted to say that... and yes, I hate Sci-Fi now for killing off nearly every good show they've had (read: actual science fiction, not cheesy horror movies and wrestling cr**) They only good show left on there, pretty much, is Eureka. And they had better not cancel it... I'll hunt them down if they do (semi-joking).

And I think that site near the Canary Islands has been looked at by honest archaeologists and all... there would be remains of buildings, but not in some nice pretty grid like that shows. And they'd be seriously decayed. But it is fun to speculate!

They're saying it's just the path of the boat that collected the undersea mapping data... but what kind of boat makes tight little right-angle turns?

Yeah, Sci-Fi has really tanked in the last few years. When I first started watching it they had shows like Lexx and Farscape on all the time, then Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Galactica (which really seemed to go off the rails after season 2). And now lots of crappy monster movies.
Honestly, I think I'd like the network a lot better if they just quit making original content altogether and just played re-runs of older shows.

As for *our* Atlantis, one fairly convincing hypothesis I've heard is that Atlantis referred to the Minoan civilization. The volcano that exploded on Thera around 1600 BC quite possibly resulted in the end of the Minoan civilization. By the time Plato wrote about the event 1200 years later, the story might have been transformed into something like the legends we know today.
