For the second time in about a month, Bodhi has gnawed through a plastic bag and the bread bag to get to a loaf of bread.
What the heck!?

The first time this happened, the loaf was new and still in the grocery bag. I sat it on my counter and forgot to put it away after putting away the rest of the groceries. Bodhi, who NEVER gets on counters (at least that I can tell), jumped up there in the middle of the night and gnawed through the bags and ate as much bread as he could get his little nose at. It probably amounted to a 1/4 piece of bread.

This time, I came in with some Target bags and had bought a loaf of bread on sale. I forgot about it and left the bag in the floor of the living room for an hour or so while I was checking my e-mail. When I came back and picked up the bag to put the stuff away, I realized that the little varmint had done it again!!

So, is this normal? What is the fascination with bread? I thought cats like meat!

I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know why he is doing it but I do feel your pain because my Mulder has done this also. Invest in a bread box and make sure to keep the bread in there. If he is like my Mulder he will keep progressing, Mulder now stalks me around the house whenever I even try to have a sandwich! He also likes pie crust if I leave a pie to cool where he can get to it!

Our eldest cat is the worst with yeasty breads. She will smell it and will be a total in-your-face cat. Fish and chicken don't cause her to be this bad and she likes them both.

My Sparky loves bread and will also come to wherever I am if I have bread. I always give in and give her tiny piece, she isn't supposed to have carbs, guess I'm a softie

I've never had a cat bother bread. However, none of our cats show any interest in human foods, so they wouldn't be fair to judge by.

By the way, Firedancer, we have a cat at the shelter who looks to be an exact match with your Siddha (if that is the yellow tabby). He was surrendered by the owner because they were being evicted.

None of my cats have gotten into bread bags but my cat Pooh Bear, loves cheese!! She will tear into bags of Cheez Its (her fave!), Cheetos, or any other cheese flavored chips.
So I have to be careful to not leave any laying around or even in hte trash as she will knock it over

Maggie is my carbo-cat. I once made a batch of lemon poppyseed mini muffins, and set them on the wire racks on the kitchen table to cool. When I came back into the kitchen to put them on the plate to take to work, Maggie had eaten ALL of the little muffin tops off!!! I figured she'd get sick from it, but....nope....she's got the guts of iron!!! She's also a popcorn, cracker, or Dorito mooch too! Actually, I'm not sure I've met a carbohydrate that she wouldn't at least try. She'll lick a potato chip or french fry, but those are probably the carbs that she likes least.....and the ones she gets least, because mommy doesn't care for them much either, lol!

Bread, around here, has to be kept in the refrigerator. She's figured out how to open the bread box....go figure!

Twinkie likes bread and has tried to get at the bread in my shopping bags on numerous occasions. And he's certainly no carb addict. His favor food is raw chicken liver.

That's so funny! There have been other threads about bread-eating cats. I think it's the yeasty smell that they like.

But the cat eating the lemon muffins - that's a double whammy - cats aren't supposed to be able to taste sweet and I thought they didn't like citrus. Well, I guess no one told Maggie!
