brush recommendations?

I'm needing some recommendation on a good grooming brush that helps with shedding. In the past week I have noticed Ricky Bobby is shedding an awful lot. When he gets up from a nap there's a huge tuft of fur left on the couch, then he stretches and more fur goes flying off. I've never had a cat shed this much. His fur has been getting much softer than it used to be, would that have anything to do with it. Well I know nothing about cat grooming, so any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

I use a Furminator on Kitty, who is a double coated Manx, and it works better than anything else ive tried!

If you have a thin/short haird cat id use it sparingly or try a fine toothed comb
