I am taking little bites of Hills prescription dies a/d and putting it on her tongue, YUCK, she drooled that out on me, SOOO I then put a smudge on her teeth, she was able to suck that in. I did this about 5 times until she got really mad and started breathing hard. I will do this every 30min to hour.

Wanna know something stupid??? The place that started this problem with LEVI, started the antibiotics. Well, I called them today to say that my other cat was sick too and I needed THEIR strength meds, as the vet I went to yesterday has a different strength. (I had to spend over 100 bucks on what they did for her there)

THe place with the original meds WON'T give me enough to treat BOTH cats! They want me to bring SAMANTHA in for ANOTHER vet visit at 35 more dollars to then spend 40 bucks on meds that they are already giving LEVI!!!!

I am so mad, I want to report this place to whoever gets these reports!!!
THis doesn't seem right to me. They claim to be a non-profit, but it looks to me like they just want another vet visit charge. Even my REGULAR vet said that common practice is to treat ALL the cats and that if they have a problem they can call THEM to make sure she is under care.

I was then told that they were not a pharmacy!! CLICK!

Whatever, I got a refil on Levi's meds and will give them both 10 days worth, my vet said that since it is DOUBLE strength antibiotics?? That they will do just fine with that.... God willing

So does that mean that I can in my mind start from today feeding her and not REALLY be behind, if you see what I am saying.

Yesterday, she got the sub-q, last night I gently gave her like 2 teaspoons of liquid mush, and the 5 or so finger tips of Hills a/d. I want to do what is best for her, but not make it worse, by having her asperate food (end up in her lungs)

I am still worried. I hope to not make it worse by being so forcefull with her

Now see, when I took Tigger in, I told them (although they knew it anyway) that I had 5 cats. 2 days later I called to say the second cat had it, and they just got the antibiotics ready, and they also made sure to tell me that the vet said just call when any of the others get it. So far there are 3 out of 5!

Well, my vet tech said, "if she doesn't eat tomorrow, just bring her back in for more sub-qs." So that sort of made me feel that the sub-qs were in place of food for that day.

I called the vet this afternoon, and they said exactally that! IF I can't get SOMETHING in her today then to come back tomorrow for another injection. So I think you are right in your thinking

Sam is still not eating or drinking on her own. I am force feeding her and water syringes to her mouth.

We are not out of the woods yet.

She is not moving around on her own. I walk her from her food, water station as if she were doing ok. Then I take her to the box, she has used it once on my watch and I THINK once on her own.

I will keep you all posted.

Levi is doing great! He is full of piss and vinager, LOL.

bye!

Just want to say that while I do not in any way recommend Hills dry diets as they are too high in vegetable based protein and too low on meat, their a/d food for sick cats is "the bees knees" and I know many people who say their cats lives have been saved by feeding Hills a/d with a syringe - it has a very high calorie and nutritional content and if you are managing to get some into your cat between the IV fluids and nutrition then that is great.

Carry on syringe feeding her the a/d food - cats are very prone to developing what is called feline anorexia when they are unwell, if you keep on getting food into her it gives her a much better chance of recovery.

Best of luck.

We are on day 4 since our trip to the vet. She is getting the antibiotics, her fever is about 102-103, She is breathing A LITTLE out of her mouth, using her nose MUCH more. I have been feeding her bits of boiled chicken, that seems to GET in her a bit better than the a/d. The a/d gets smooshed around more that anything else.

BUT after reading your quote about a/d, I think I will work with that as much as I can. I am still really worried about her. I still have to syringe water into the poor baby. I had scheduled another visit for a sub-q and my ride fell through.
I REALLY think she needed that today

Today I also had to take my daughter to the "vet" as she has been sick and home from school for 3 days. She is 13 and has a BAD stiff neck. The doc is worried about meningitis so if it's not better by Sunday, off we go for a spinal tap

Does anyone know what Ebstein Barr is?? I am gonna google it right now, but my kid is being checked for that?? ((google done, its MONO, she could just said that!! LOL))

Cats, kids, sheesh, this has been a rough month for our family!
