One of my cats (feral, maybe stray, but tame either way) has been pulling out the hair on his back. I'm assuming it's him that's doing it. I thought maybe he got in a fight with another cat but it keeps happening, so I think he's doing it. He's been around here since longer then I've lived here (three years) and I've never noticed it before.

My sister's cat was doing the same thing . She had a very dry, dull coat, and she constantly pulled clumps of fur out. She also ate voraciously, and was losing weight. It turned out that she is hyperthyroid, and since she started on medication, both symptoms have disappeared.

Kitty started doing that after I got Maisie. The vet thought it could have started as a stress thing and became on overgrooming habit.

We never really found out what it was buyt he did have dry skin on his rump so I guess skin problem and many people say it can be because of food allergies

Sabastian always does that every now and then, and its hilarious because it looks like hes actually getting into a fight with his fur. He will start slapping his tail against the floor and start tugging and ripping out fur like hes mad at the world.
