Need help! What pet to travel with for 2 months?

Hello, I thought this would be the place to ask this question...
I have 2 cats (male and female, sister / brother)7 years old who I just rescued last April. I also have a dog, a Pointer, 7 also.

I got a position for 2 months, I leave June and come back first week in August. I did not want to leave all 3 pets with my husband, we will stop overnight at a friends house, so this will be a Thursday to Friday night ride... Do you have any experience who travels better? who adapts better? Cats or Dogs? Crazy me, I rented a "Luxury Van" that seats 7 people, and it's me, my computer, some clothes and the pets.. ;0) lots of $$ but they are worth it!

**my cats hate traveling in cars, my dog, is fine, but my cats (especially the male) are more around me all the time, and my dog is more near my husband... I'm really not sure what to do...

Any suggestions, please, anyone, time is getting near!

Though I do wonder if this is not a permanent position, it might be better to leave the cats behind, as they react so differently to stress and change. Unless your husband won't care for them?
