It's scheduled for Tues. March 17 for my left hand. Then prolly April or May for the right hand.

(hmmmm, what is it with me and surgery on March break? I had my first carpal tunnel surgery on March break as well, back in 2005)

So they are doing the tendonitis in your left hand? I looked thru the link you posted in the other thread and realized that the surgery I had was in a different tendon than the one you are having corrected. Yours goes up the side of the thumb where mine was on the underside of the thumb (flexor).

I just started physical therapy on mine yesterday. My advice to you: get yourself into physical therapy as quickly as you can post surgery. If the scar tissue from the surgery settles too long, it starts to fuse the tendon to surrounding tissue (or bone) and it has to be broken apart to use it again. I can tell you that really hurts to break it up (but my flexing went from about 10 degrees to 45 degrees once she broke it up). My therapist mentioned that she wishes she had gotten to me about 2 weeks earlier (2 weeks post surgery). You might want to talk to your doctor about it.

But the positive side: after 2 weeks, I had more strength in that hand post surgery than I had before it. The tendon heals very quickly. The scar tissue has to be worked for a while to recover. You will be very relieved once you get thru all of this.

And coincidentally: I'm doing the flexing exercises while I read thru posts. I was doing the one to regain strength in the tendon that you are having surgery on when I opened your post. Yeah, your whole hand gets a little mushy post surgery.

Ah, I see. Yep, they are starting with the left, a month or two later they will do the right, then if the elbows don't get better we'll be doing them too

I'm surprised they waited so long to do physio for you, but then your surgery was a little different. Mine will start as soon as the stiches are out, which I was told is about 10 days afterwards.

I never head about the scar tissue fusing the tendon to its surroundings... that is good to know

I learned that lesson when I had the surgeries for carpal tunnel. Did my right hand first and I listened to the "general" surgeon who said not to move except to wiggle my fingers. When they did the other hand, I was in physio for the first one and physio told me to keep moving my wrist as much as I could. I recovered soooo much faster in the one that I moved.

Luckily this time, it is a hand/upper limb specialist surgeon who is doing it instead of a general surgeon (the one who did my carpal tunnel, also did my colonoscopy and tied my tubes). The surgeon for this upcoming, did my father's surgery when he fell of a grain bin and broke his arm in a zillion spots. Did a great job with him

ohhh good luck!! And you aren't alone having surgery that week I'm having mine on the 19th!!
