I posted about a year ago about a problem I was having with my cat, Briza, randomly attacking me without any provocation. Fortunately we've gotten past most of that, and she knows now that if she's going to bite she gets shot in the face with a water gun.
Everything was going fine for a long time. I've been relatively bite free, she's gotten much more affectionate and we spend at least an hour a day playing.
But within in the last several weeks she's started doing something that's pissing me off beyond belief. She's started scratching at the computer monitor. At first I thought she was just chasing the mouse pointer. So I gave her a firm no and put her on the floor.
But she's not chasing the mouse pointer. It doesn't matter if it's off or on, she scratches at it. She has a scratching post, so she's not trying to sharpen her claws, I honestly think she's trying to irritate me.
I've got the water gun sitting on the desk, but I can't easily shoot her while she's scratching at the monitor. This is a $700 high end monitor that she's already left several noticable scratches on, that fortunately you can't see when it's on. But I'm just waiting for her to do some real damage.
What I don't understand is that the monitor has been here a lot longer than she's been here, and she's just now taking interest in it.
I've tried covering it up at night with a blanket and she just pulls the blanket off to scratch at the monitor.
Every time she gets a smack on the back of the head, she looks at me and goes right back to scratching at it. Saying no doesn't do anything.
I don't want to do anything that'll scare her away from lying on the desk, I like having her there. I just don't want her scratching at a very nice monitor that I can't even begin to afford to replace.
Edit: It doesn't matter if I'm in the room or not. I've walked into the room and caught her scratching at it. So if she's doing it when I'm not here, all the water and smacks on the back of the head aren't going to do any good what so ever.
Any ideas?
