hey guys

we are having a problem with our male cat, hes a bit over a year old and he seems to have this thing for knocking things off stands and desks. its mostly cups, he has some sort of a fascination with cups, he looks in them and bats his hand like hes trying to reach for something inside it, which inevitably ends in him knocking it over. or he will nudge a book off a stand or what not. I dont think hes looking for the water, we keep him watered and he never gets down to see what happened to the cup, he knocks it off and then just looks at you like yeah that was me. We have tried making loud noises and bangs and we have tried spraying him with a water bottle, none of which phase him. Any ideas?

what i would probably try doing myself in that sort of situation is destroy his fascination with the cups lol..like make them boring to him.. cats get curious about things like that when they know they arent supposed to mess with them or they dont know what it is..id try maybe familiarizing him with one..not playing with him with one or anything..but show him one and then take it a way a few times..hell probably get bored with it eventually..then again i dont know the cat so it could go either way..but right now it sounds like hes just curious as to what it is..does he get down and sniff at it after he knocks it off?

Nope, he just knocks it over and then looks at whoever is in the room like " hi, that was me." Its causing a bit of an issue because hes knocking over cups of koolaid and stuff on the rugs in here. He doesnt appear to be wanting the cup or whats inside..he doesnt play with a cup if you leave it on the floor, and he doesnt check ut the liquid after he spills it..its like he just wants to knock it over.

Mr Jinx does that, he usually wants me to chase him or brush him when he does that, he has only broken one thing, a bottle of my favorite hot sauce. He has not broken any of my model cars, for which I am grateful.

Lol my kitten does ALL of that. He also has a fascination with cups. One time I made the mistake of leaving a glass of iced tea on the floor for a minute, and oh boy I came back into the room with the tea all over the floor, and my kitty looking at it in a totally puzzled way. It was hilarious....It's just one of those things you have to learn to live with, and believe me after that accident I surely never will leave a glass of something just standing around, even if it's on the tables...

I think so. I doubt an adult cat would go through all the trouble of knocking out a glass of liquid

Hiding from my SS!
My Spooky is 21 months and does this. I now use non-spill cups or bottles for everything I canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t watch constantly which is pretty much everything except meals. He does it to get my attention, but has basically stopped now that he knows I am not going to react since there is no spill. He will still go after an open cup if you leave it out though. I hope your kitty grows out of it!
