I have a tube of this from a while back when (the same cat) Fanny had a minor ear problem of some kind. I think the problem has returned. Unfortunately I'm low on this and unemployed so I can't afford a visit to the vet at this moment. Is there a non-prescription equiv for this medication? I'm not sure if Fanny has an infection or if it's mites. The nice thing about this ointment is that it treats either ailment, by either drowning the mites or killing the infection. It's a kind of catch-all solution. I don't think it's mites since our other cat is fine, it's the dead of winter, neither cat goes outdoors, and the problem is the same ear as before (never been both ears). I just think Fanny is susceptible to ear infections for whatever reason. I also notice that after treating her ear today she stopped favoring it (shaking her head, having the ear crooked/lowered). She seems to like the treatment... as much as a cat could that is. :p

Of course they'll want to see her again, it's all about money. No cat = no income at the vet.
And don't even try to defend the vet practices, we had a poodle with with adison's and know the games they try to play with people. They know how attached people get and use that as leverage. It's horrible. Seen it multiple times personally and have heard the horror stories from other owners, with completely different vets across the country. The pursuit of money turns everything to
, including animal medical treatment services.

Now, if this was a bad situation I wouldn't hesitate, but a minor ear problem doesn't and shouldn't require vet attention.

What I did do was look at the options available at Petsmart yesterday and I think I'm going to use up what remaining Panalog I have then start a cleaning regimen (every couple days to start until it appears to have stopped being irritated). Petsmart had some ointments for cleaning. I've owned a number of cats and have seen full blown infections, so that's one reason I'm in no hurry to bring her to the vet since it doesn't appear she has a bad infection. It's also possible she just needs a good cleaning.

I guess I was hoping there was a Panlog equiv available without prescription since it covers all the bases. I guess I'm back to playing doc myself and trying a few things to see what helps.

Sorry for the rant, my response covers more issues than just your reply and I appreciate someone replying...
