So...I've recently taken in a sick kitty. I haven't had a cat in a several years--especially not a housecat, but this one needed somewhere to go or it was going to be put down so I took it(it's FelV +, but healthy atm).

Any way, so this male kitty is young--8 months old and was neutered last Tuesday, but I'm having a problem with him peeing on the furniture! I have a "pet room" that's decked out with toys and beds and junk for when I'm not home, and he's good about using his litter box when he's in there. I let him out when I come home from work--that's the problem, when he's loose in the rest of the house, he pees on my very expensive sofa! He's done it 3 times in little over a week. He's a sneaky little bugger! I like the kitty, but I can't have him ruining the furniture. I've tried several different "urine removers" to take the smell out(not working so great) but I'm sure if not watched like a hawk, he'd do it again in a heartbeat--he's taken a liking to the sofa. What can I do to curb this?

He was just neutered, so still has some hormones in his system.

That said - anytime a cat pees where they shouldn't, I suspect a UTI. I'd take him in & have him tested - males are at risk to block up completely. Better safe than sorry!

My 11 year old female all of a sudden started to pee outside of her litter box - I took her to the vet and found out that she had a urinary tract infection, so have your little gut checked out. If all is well and he doesn't have a UTI you should invest in Feliway sprays or dispensers (the dispensers work best) Feliway emits a natural "feel good" hormone and is often recommended by veterinarians for inappropriate urine marking or spraying. Hope this helps.
