Just an idea, but I mix corned beef with mayo (or miracle whip, your choice) and pickle relish with a little celery seed and eat it cold on a sandwich. I don't even know if I've ever had it cooked.

Yeah, it does stink when you first open it...just like tuna smells like cat food!

When I eat spam, I slice it and roll it in flour, salt and pepper. I fry is up crisp and eat it like it is. I love the stuff!
I grew up eating spam since it was cheap and easy. We didn't have much money.

I can't eat it now though as it is way too fattening and I am on a diet. I try to find other foods that I can eat.

Well I bought the small 7oz can and will try it with eggs in the morning. However I will wait until I feel completely 100% better!

Maybe the cats would finish it off?? Or just set the tim outside some critter will eat it.

We eat it a lot during the summer. We make a great cold salad. Cut the Spam up in small chunks (bite size pieces) and fry a little. Cook up some pasta (macaroni, etc.) and then cut up in small bite size pieces some chedder cheese (block cheese).

Mix all together with some Miracle Whip dressing. Its great.

I call this stuff "Canned Man Food".. just about every man I know (excluding my gay friends who have refined tastes).. will eat this stuff.. but I dont know many women who will.

My BF says Spam is on the menu at just about every restraunt in Hawaii.. its a delicacy there.. he even heard they have a warehouse stocked full of it, because they are afraid of a riot should they run out!

My dad used to take it along on camping trips since it was easy to transport and didnt take up cooler space. We would have what he called "Spamburgers" where he would slice it up to about 1/2" thick and fry it, then put a piece of cheese on top and put it on a hamburger bun with mayo and ketchup. Also he would dice it up and mix it in with scrambled eggs and cheese for breakfasts. I remember it being edible, but not something I would want to eat regularly.

I was travelling with friends through Minnesota and we were passing thru Austin when we saw the billboards for the museum. My friend was driving and made the decision that we needed to go visit the museum. It was a complete hoot!

The museum had a theater where they showed a short movie about the history of Spam. While showing it, they delivered pieces of Spam to the audience. I looked at the platter, realized that I had never tasted Spam in my life so took one. I will not eat Spam again.

But the museum was great. I bought a pair of flipflops with "SPAM" indented on the soles so that when you walk in them, it leaves the word SPAM in the sand.

Hawaii has had the largest consumption per capita in the world. The theory is that its a cheap source of meat, as its expensive to ship meat to that state.

It's eons since I ate Spam, usually (as others have noted) sliced and fried like bacon, served with eggs or in a sandwich. Certainly not gourmet fare, but as I recall it was tasty and satisfying, and while it's not something I'd go out of my way for, I wouldn't refuse it, either.

To those who don't like it....the way the economy is heading, you may have the only choice of "meat" - regular meats will be only for the rich.....lol

I actually don't mind Spam. It's not my favorite thing to eat, but it's OK. I actually just made some for DH not too long ago. He'd never had it (his family had a lot more money than mine did
). He thought it was OK, too. Forest, however, LOOOOVED it. That silly cat crawled all over me until I gave him a piece then sat in the middle of the floor and yowled for more.

OMG! When selecting something to eat when on a fishing trip, I go with the little weenies in can. My family likes Spam and I think it is disgusting.

I don't know if you've ever heard of John Boy and Billy (local radio people who are now national radio people), but they used to do a skit about Spam Animals.

I had never had it untill a few months ago. DH grew up with it and had it alot when he lived in Hawaii. I liked it, I did find it to be a bit on the salty side. I did see that they make a low sodium variety so I will have to try that.

We just fried it up in a pan and had it with eggs for breakfast. DH says its good on the grill too. He also said he remembers in Hawaii that they would use it on pizza instead of Canadian Bacon. I plan on making it soon. A "true" Hawaii pizza, Spam, pineapple, red onion and jalapenos, I think it will be pretty good.
