Ive read that a cat will only eat as much catnip as it needs. Kitty has been wanting some everyday lately. Sometimes twice a day! She eats a few mouthfuls. Is this ok?

Also, she has some serious stomach probs, and i wonder if the catnip doesnt help with pain/etc?

I've read that if your cat gets catnip all the time they get immune to it and to limit it to once a week.

How old is the catnip? Is it sealed good in a container.

Define a mouthful please. The mental picture that I have is that a mouthful is a couple of tablespoons, not a little nibble. If you are really giving her that much catnip a day, I would suspect that it would add to her stomach problems.

I don't think that cats regulate their intake. Some get so loopy that they stop "using". When I bring in fresh catnip from the garden, I have some that will eat a dozen large leaves or more if you let them, and others that just mash their heads against the leaves. I regulate their intake cause I don't trust them to.

I don't know enough about catnip to tell you if it helps with stomach problems. I have read that it affects a cat's nervous system in a way similar to how marijuana affects humans. Humans use marijuana to help the nausea related to chemotherapy, so perhaps catnip can help a cat in a similar manner.

Kitty is a very delicate, nibbly kind of cat...
Her mouthful is more like a lick.

the cat nip is organic and sealed in a tight container now. It was in a bag but she liked to tear it open

She doesnt seem to crave it everyday, but most days. I personally dont think shes eating too much.

My cat Midori is a bonafide catnip-junkie. She gets a sprinkle once or twice a day, and licks it up until she's feeling real good... Then she stops and just sits on it.

Note, she's a really mellow cat who just gets more mellow on nip...

I think if you have the kind that goes psycho on it you might want to limit intake, if just for your own sanity.

I wouldn't worry about the quantity then. Stumpy regularly eats a teaspoon at a time. Anything less and he gets in my face and demands more.
