I have 2 cats with different companies micro chips. I have another cat whom I plan on chipping soon. What's the best way to get all their information (and mine) in one place. Do I just register with each different manufacture or is there a "central" place I can register them?

Thanks

Nope, there isn't a central microchip place. You might ask your local animal control (or whoever you would buy your pet licenses from) if they keep track of microchip numbers. The shelter here does all of the city's animal control work and licensing. They like to have each pet's microchip number on file, if possible.

When I call about a microchipped animal we find stray, the microchip company can tell by the number which company it comes from and just tell me who to call

PetWatch allow registration of all types of North American chips but if I recognise it as a HomeAway chip, I call them not PetWatch and they don't share numbers so as I have cats with 3 different chips, I registered them with their respective chip companies as well as PetWatch (free).

home again also offers registration of other chips http://public.homeagain.com/faq.html#needmicrochip

Most shelters or vets will call their chip company first so call around and see what shelters in your area use before paying for multiple companies, but if it is free registration - it can't hurt to register on all of them.

Oh and please update the info if/when you move or change your phone number. The number of chipped animals we get with out of date info or that have been chipped and never registered is rediculous and it can take a few days for them to update their systems so doing it when your pet is lost if picked up by a high volume kill shelter could mean it is too late
