Hello all. I haven't posted on here in a long time - things were very hectic and nearly all my internet based communication fell to the wayside.

Briefly, to recap, my husband and I took in three feral kittens just over a year ago - Paddington, Steve and Conor. Things have been going very well. However, yesterday, sweet little Conor passed away.

Both my husband and I are absolutely devastated. It was very sudden. We went away on Saturday for the night (for a party) and she was fine. She seemed okay on Sunday as well - not as eager to eat her dinner, but she had been sleeping quite soundly and they got fed at strange hour so we didn't really think anything of it. However, we later noticed she was breathing slightly funny. The husband went and spoke to the vet to see if we should bring her in and he said yes, so we bundled her up and took her over.

He was baffled. She looked healthy (good coat, bright eyes) and she is an indoor cat - hasn't been outside since we took her in last year. He decided to keep her in and do some tests.

I later called for an update and apparently she had just died. He had managed to extract a large amount of fluid from her lungs and she perked up. But then, within a few minutes of that, she died. Her little body just couldn't handle it. The husband was at a work function, but I called him and we managed to get over to the vet to say goodbye. She looked so peaceful.

The vet wasn't sure exactly what went wrong. He thinks she might have had some sort of congenital weakness and then suffered some sort of weird trauma. He said we were very unlucky - a freak accident of some sort.

I had really grown to love her so much in the past year. She was a wonderful cat and I miss her so much it hurts. The other cats are sad too - Conor was their ringleader and they are kind of at a loss. They seem to be taking comfort in each other.

I just wanted to let you all know since you had been so helpful to us in the first few months. I apologize, again, that I have been out of the loop, but I thank you all for everything you did for Conor (and the other cats).

I am so sorry to hear that, Wendy. I loved reading your adventures with the trio.

The one thing you can be sure of is that Conor had a lovely life because of you and your husband. She would have suffered so out in the wild.

Bless you both!

So sorry to hear about Conor.
I am glad she was able to live out her short life in a loving home.

I was just wondering yesterday about how you and your cats were doing. I'm sorry...maybe I jinxed you!

Cats are so good at hiding an illness until it is often too late.
