And now for the REALLY important news

Thread Starter
Obama and the first family was bumped off the cover of 'Us Weekly' to cover a far more important story that is sure to effect the entire reading public...

Jessica Simpson has gained weight!!!!!!

Actually they're on the cover in a 1/2 page shot, Jessica Simpson's on the right side in a quarter page shot.

And how classy is the President's comment about it on NBC?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28967411/

LAUER: You got replaced by Jessica Simpson.

OBAMA: Yeah, who’s losing a weight battle apparently. (LAUGHTER) Yeah. Oh, well.

Classy.

He must need some management classes, one of the first things you learn is the higher your position, the less you can make offhand comments.

Oh, c'mon now, give Obama a break. He's still learning. After all, the presidency is only the *first* executive position he's ever held.

Barack is a classless buffoon to say such a thing, he and Biden make a class act. Not

Yeah, that's right lets ridicule a woman for being a healthy weight instead of anorexic like the rest of the women in Hollywood.
IMO, its a non-issue. The article was about her weight. I think he was just acknowledging that he knew about it.
He laughed at her, he also made it seem that he agreed she had a weight problem. This is the President of the United States, the most powerful person on Earth, making a fool of himself IMO.

He doesn't have a clue how to act presidential, he doesn't have a presidential bone in his body, his immaturity blaze forth.

Do we just need to find you all a smash Obama hammer smilie? It would be so much simpler for you......

All I have to say is this: For 8 years, I was told to get over it.

And for the next four years, that may be your best and only response as well. Seriously though, if you think his response was appropriate, say so.

Is there such a smilie??? Come on, let's see it.

Why yes, yes you do, my friend.

That's pretty sad when Jessica Simpson's weight is more important than a US President. Why should she even have been on the cover of any magazine. What has she ever done that's even remotely important? It tells a sad story for what the public seems to want to read and know about.

I, of course, interpreted Obama's remarks much differently than some of you. I simply interpreted his comments as an acknowledgement rather than a judgement but then I'm Canadian and we tend to be like that.

It's an entertainment magazine, so I'd expect to see her on the cover before the First Family.

A lot of people here are entertained by writing posts about the first family, maybe they're entertained by reading about it as well!

But she isn't even close to being "entertaining". She can't act, has no talent, has a strange relationship with her father and about the only thing she has going for her are large breasts. If she was for real on the show with her and Nick, she's also fairly stupid as well, so, as I said, it's a sad testimonial to what the public wants to read and know about.

And, for the record, I personally find Obama and his family quite entertaining, interesting and definitely smarter than Miss Simpson.

I think he was probably laughing at the fact that she upstaged him. He may have even been laughing because he thought the article was silly. My guess is he was laughing because he thinks that the idea that she has a weight problem is stupid. There is so much sarcasim on this site alone, you'd think we would be able to recognize it.
So many women in this country have weight problems. I seriously doubt he wants to alienate any of them.

If he's a typical guy, he was probably laughing at whoever wrote the article, because we typical guys don't SEE any weight problem.

I honestly think it's all about interpretation and what "spin" we put on things according to our own biases and prejudices. Each person will and does read and interpret happenings in their world based on what they themselves have become as a product of their environment, upbringing, teachings, etc. That's what makes us all different and unique. As I said to Cindy in a previous post, I doubt I would agree with her on many issues since we both are from a radically different background, environment, teachings, etc. Doesn't make either of us right or wrong - just different and those differences are what make the world go 'round!

BTW, I just saw the interview.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/sho...sica.panel.cnn
Obama did NOT say "losing" a weight battle. He said "in" a weight battle. He was misquoted. Also, I didn't hear Obama laugh. I didn't even see him smile until he said "Oh, well" at the end. I did hear Lauer laugh though.
Silly...

Honestly, I think this whole thing is stupid, and I'm HAPPY to see celebrities replace Obama on the cover of "celebrity" magazines. The President is the President, not a celebrity.

I personally don't like Jessica Simpson, but I feel bad for her for being in the spot light about something as stupid as this. At least the country is getting back to "normal" and concentrating on someone's weight instead of what is actually going on in the country.

Yeah, nice to see the priorities are back in alignment.

Sad isn't it! Actually I think the President is the ultimate celebrity and what he does and is doing is far more important than poor little Jessica's weight problem. As for being in the spotlight, it goes with the territory - you want publicity - you take what you get, good and bad. If folks would stop buying and reading the trash about celebrities, there wouldn't be a need for this negative publicity. You know what they say in Hollywood - there is no such thing as bad publicity. Pretty sad really when people need that much attention.

Amy, if it helps you, you can do what I do. In my head, I've made it a game...when President Obama is mentioned out of context, or something like this, where he is misquoted, and jumped all over, I think of it as a drinking game...I call it a 'BAMA! <--and then take an imaginary drink.

Thank God they're only imaginary drinks, or else reading 90% of the threads lately would keep me in a constant state of intoxication.

I saw that interview. I'm pretty sure he was being ironic about the fact that weight is made such an issue, particularly for female performers; he wasn't being sarcastic towards JS.

How true!
Did you used to play Bob? That is taking a drink every time the name Bob is mentioned while watching the original Bob Newhart Show.

Kind of like a broken record. I find it quite entertaining how innocent actions/comments can be interpreted to be malicious or nasty. Does it say something about the interpreters? Things that make you go hmmmmm!

I really feel sorry for you mods. You have to read all the posts don't you?

Maybe your drinks should be real rather than imaginary!
