How did this happen.....this is so horrible, what do you think should be done? The kitten is about 6 to 7 months old.

This is a health and nutrition question. I'll move it to that forum for you now.

This is very young for a cat to be giving birth. What makes you think she is pregnant? Has she been around any male cats? Is she up to date on her shots? Has she been to the vet?

haha, kitty sex. Of course.....But who was the lucky male that got to her? She didn't even go in heat or anything, she was about to be taken to the vet to get spayed. Should she just have the kittens? It won't be bad for such a young cat to have babies?

I'm sorry but I am just going to say this. You used to work for a vet and you do not know the answer to this question yourself?

It is not safe for a kitten to bear young. Most of the time there are problems with the delivery and some of the kittens do not survive. If the cat is to young, she may not have her mothering instincts kicked into gear and then you are left on your own to hand raise the surviving kittens. This means feedings ever two hours around the clock, stimulating their tummies so they eliminate waste, keeping them warm at about 90 degrees and dealing with any sickness or illness they might have. Please get this kitten spayed immediately.

She was supposed to be spayed when we got her from the animal shelter.
You know how an adopted kitten is supposed to be spayed before you actually are allowed to take them home. Well, it looks like they said they actually spayed the cat, but the vet there found out that the kitten was pregnant and decided not to spay it. I am very upset with the news I just found out. Please don't give me a hard time on this subject, how do you think I feel that I just found out that my family kitten that I told my sister to get from the shelter is pregnant. This is a sad subject but please don't think it is my wrong doing.

that is odd that the vet found out she was pregant and decided not to spay her. My little girl lilly was just spayed and she is 7 monthes old. During the spay they found out she was pregant. At the time your vet should have just went along with the spay. I know it seems awful, but sometimes it is in the best interest of the cat.

Sorry to hear about the pregnant kitten. I think you should notify the shelter about this situation, they are partly responsible for this mess. If the their vet found that she was already pregnant before the spay surgery, why was your sister not notified of this information before she brought home the kitten? I think a lot of shelters have become too irresponsible, and could write a book about the horrors I have endured because of incompetent shelters. Please find out what your sister's rights may be in this situation, if it were me, I would demand that they handle the adoption of the kittens, and any related vet bills that your sister may, and probably will, incur due to complications in the birth, and the cost of spaying the cat after. If she decides not to allow the birth to take place they should definately cover the cost of surgery to spay and remove the unborn babies.

Good Luck

Please have her spayed immidiately! A pregnant female can and should be spayed. Don't let her go through the ordeal of giving birth at such a young age.

Her new kitten is in vets care today. Poor kitten ben through so much stuff. A kitten along with her siblings thrown out on the streets because of irrespondsible owners. Then gets tossed in the horrible shelter we have, then to get pregnant. What horrible things cats or animals have to go through beccause of their owners not wanting to care for them.

Pray for the kitten, I believe Ashleigh is going to name her Lucky...because of all that has happened, the kitty will be lucky after this because she will have a good home!
