I'm not sure, honestly.
Hopefully thats it. Otherwise I'll have to pull half when the youngest at the halfway mark is 2 weeks, then pull the rest when the real youngest is 2 weeks. I don't want it to be too hard on the parents.

BUt here's some pictures.

It's harder to tell 3 and 4 apart. But Baby1 is obviously the big on in the middle. Baby2 is right beside him with the two eggs. Baby3 is up by Baby1's head and the egg, and Baby4 is right behind him.

Most birds won't unless you have a nest.

Which is good.. you people would be having bird babes and not knowing what to do with them.

A lot of people think owning a bird is easy. Fresh food and water everyday. Simple.
But birds are smarter animals than people think they are. They need mind stimulating toys(also switched around every few days), they need to be let out to fly, they need a diet other than just seeds (pellets, fresh fruit and veggies, some grains and pastas are good too).

Lets just say that not just anyone will be getting one of these baby birds.

Congrats...you are going to have your hands full.

Just one question though...are you cleaning the nest box daily? Wouldn't want the little ones to get sick..

I have only had one lovebird. I used to have a lovely male cockatiel . He didn't live in a cage. he had a huge stand in the livingroom. He was such a smarty pants. He had to say hello to everyone. If they didn't come over to him .he went to them and insisted on pets and saying hello. He never messed anywhere other than his stand. I want another bird ,
but Dh doesn't think cats and birds can live in the same home.

I Don't clean the nest box out at all, actually. As reccommended to me by my breeder. As the chance of her rejecting them increases. I know it's an old wives tale about touching baby birds. As I've already touched the wee ones. But messing with the nest is not something I feel comfortable doing right now. If it gets really dirty then I'll have no choice. But I'd rather not mess with it if I don't have to.

I had budgies a while back and Poptart actually got one out of the cage without opening any doors and he killed it. So these guys are confined to my bedroom. But they do get a free fly time every day. I also don't clip their wings so they an actually really fly around.

As they start to get older...mom and dad will spend more time out of the nest (mostly pigging out on food because it takes alot to feed all of them once they start to get bigger). I would try to clean it then.

What are mom and dads favorite foods right now?

I have only had cockatiels that have had babies. I would love to be able to see little lovies grow up some day.

Wait til they learn how to fly..now thats a trip.
You are so lucky to have babies right now.

Will try that then.

They love their seeds more than anything I think.
They don't care for the pellets that much at all.
Fave veggie is definitely broccolli(probably as much as their seeds
). Fruit.... probably grapes. They don't care for the pasta or grains too much either.. but they pick at it.

Another hatching during the night. So I think one more will hatch.. one egg is darker than all the rest so I figure that one is bad and this last egg will hatch.

Bad news.

Baby4 died. I'm not sure from what, if one of the bigger chicks smothered him or if Mama did Im not sure. But he still had food in his crop so I can't imagine he was sick.

Also lost baby1 and baby5.

One also hatched yesterday.

I think I am going to pull the older two and handfeed.. just because I can't risk that it's moms fault. With mom being handfed theres a pretty good chance that she just doesn't know what she's doing.
