Hi -
I have Lucky on health insurance, and next week will be adding Bugsy to it. Even though they would pay for 80% of the emergency, or illness cost, I still want to make sure I have $$$ saved up for dental expenses, co-payment, etc.
I live from paycheck to paycheck, and want to open a kitty savings account, so I am ready if something happens.
Here are my questions:
  1. Do you have a kitty fund?
  2. If so, how much/ month do you put in? Ist that per cat?
  3. Do you have insurance for your kitties?
  4. For what type of expenses is your kitty fund? Only emergencies, or food, yearly exams, etc?
Your input is greatly appreciated... I am not the most $$$ savvy person on the block, but I want to be the most responsible parent to my kitties that I can be, and never run into a situation that I can not pay for their medical expenses...
Thanks!

I budget 20 a month per cat ( mine are under 5) that is medical .. Food is another 100 per month ... also have two care credit cards for like the er vet.. No insurence IMHO not worth it as most find ways of not paying or outright exclude even the mildest stuff( ie one cat had a uti and thus one company said no uti s would be covered ever )

Do you have a kitty fund?
I have a separate high interest savings acct. for the cats

If so, how much/ month do you put in? Is that per cat?
$100/week for 3 cats, so around $400 a month

Do you have insurance for your kitties?
No

For what type of expenses is your kitty fund? Only emergencies, or food, yearly exams, etc?
Just for emergencies, we haven't had any so far (my oldest is 2)

For now I set aside $50 a month because I need to build up at least $300-$400 fast in case something comes up but I don't save up for preventive care, that I just pay for on the spot...I plan to set aside about $20 in the future when my fund is large enough. I wouldn't get insurance either just because it seems pointless to me - if I set aside the money I would pay for insurance it wouldn't that much different and that way it never gets wasted for the insurance company to profit ...

I have a "pet" fund....I always have at least $2000 saved for pet care...mostly I pay outright for reg appointments but if its anything over 300 I take it out and replace it right away when I can...I spend alot of money a month on food and supplies for my pets....over $200...plus I have a credit card ...I looked into insurance for my 2 chihuahua's and it was 90 a month..then I started hearing stories about not getting any money back from the insurance companies so I thought ...I'd get outta that deal and just save more a month...So far its worked out for me.....

No insurance here, and no kitty fund either. We do have CC's that are available if an Emerg ever arose.
