MOYOCK, N.C. – Blackwater Worldwide, which guards American diplomats in Iraq, said Thursday it would be prepared to leave that country within 72 hours after Iraqi officials denied the North Carolina-based company an operating license because of a deadly shooting spree in Baghdad.

Breaks my heart to see those mercenary cowboys get denied by the Iraqi government.

The sad part is, with proper oversight, accountability and command structure, they could have been a valuable resource.

I know several Blackwater employees personally. Don't be surprised if the Iraqi government calls up begging them to come back.

They only way they should be allowed back in is if they are answerable to the military and fall under their command structure. They need to reigned in and stomped on hard when they screw up, which is a lot. The state department was wrong in trying to coddle and protect them for as long they did.

I remember reading about an incident where they got into traffic accident with a some soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division. The Blackwater members made the soldiers get on the ground and kept their weapons on them until the vehicles were untangled. That's just wrong. If that were my squad I would have engaged Blackwater at that point. They have fired on Army and Marine units a number of times.

I feel distinctly uncomfortable with a private company that can out-do our military....if that regime ever decides to turn against us

I agree they need more oversight, Bryan. I just don't think that anyone else is going to be willing to step up to the plate and do the "dirty deeds" that need done sometimes.
