If you found $100,000 dollars what would you do?

These workers turned it in. What would you have done? Would it be different if you were the only one to find it?

Oh boy that's a tough one!

Especially if it was drug money and not someone's hard earned savings...

that money would have been in my trunk lickety-split

Don't most police departments have a wait time? For example, if no one says it's missing within so much time, it's yours?

I'd turn it in.

Wow, that'd be hard. Normally I'd say I'd turn it in but with the way things are financially right now Im honestly not sure what I'd do.

I'd turn it in without a doubt. I would guilty spending a cent of it, and how would you explain to anyone why you were suddenly spending so much? If you tried to bank a large amount of money I imagine it would set off alarms with the IRS.

Realistically, I think it'd cause more trouble trying to keep it.

Same here.... A few months ago, sure, I would turn it in; now - probably not

I would turn it in. I would be wishing I could keep it but knowing my luck it would be marked bills or even counterfeit. First time I tried to use any of it sirens would blow.

So, just to save me all the worry I would turn it in. My DH wouldn't even hesitate turning it in. He is so on the straight and narrow it's not even funny!

Part of me would want to take some money to pay for a couple things and replace the money I take with I.O.U.'s but I would probably turn it in.

I hope that I would turn it in. I think I would but now the way things are I would be much more tempted to keep it.

I would turn it in. I'd be afraid to have all that money... who knows where it came from or who was missing it.

I really don't know..it would be so tempting to keep it. My morals would tell me otehrwise though

You couldn't put it into a bank - or at least no more than $500 a month without looking too suspicious. But there are thousands of people that get paid in cash in this country - a good portion aren't here legally. Of course then you have your drug dealers and other criminals.

Simply use cash in places where your name won't be tied to anything. To make some online purchases/pay bills, you may be able to get around things by using things like visa money cards. There's also ways of checking for marked bills.

As for $100,000 becoming your's if it wasn't claimed? Does anyone think a police precinct and city would let that much out of their hands? There's little chance that it wouldn't have been stolen or drug money, so they'd find some way to tie it up.

I'd simply leave it and not become involved at all or take it if I was certain there'd be no way to trace I did it (witnesses, surveillance cameras) - even if I were to take it to the police, you certainly don't want anything pointing to you if whoever lost that much came looking for it.

I have lived with the Italian guilt my whole life, of course I would turn it in My parents are travel agents for guilt trips

I would turn the money in.
I feel guilty just saying it but I would keep it, I have so many bills, so far behind my head is spinning & honestly I need a break!!!
Probably keep at least some of it .... which is terribly morally wrong, but it could do a lot for me!
I would Turn it IN!! I had trouble with the IRS before and I dont want trouble with them again!
My conscious would not allow me to keep it, even though I desperately need it. I believe in what goes around, comes around. I don't know how long our local police will keep it, but if it remains unclaimed, then the money would be mine.

On the other hand, DH says he would keep it.

donate most of it... spend the rest. but at first id wait to see if it was someones... maybe someone dropped their life savings or college fund. depriving someone of that would be ashame.

The only option for me would be to turn it in (and hope nobody claims it).

From what I hear, as the money is almost certainly drug money, the workers will not be able to claim the money if (when, really) it remains unclaimed.

Eva, I never thought about the possibility of it being counterfeit...that would be scary!
Since it was drug money and it had been out there for awhile, without a doubt I would keep it. Just don't be stupid and deposit it all in big chunks or buy really expensive things all at once.

I think that's wrong! If no one claims it than it should go to those guys who found it whether it's drug money or not!

Maybe I could spend just a little? On chocolate?
i would want to keep it but im wouldnt be able to, i would turn it in.
I would keep it without a dought.. I'm soo broke right now I could use all the help i can get. And judgeing from where that cash was found I would not feel guilty about it as my gut tells me it was gained though drugs.

As for what i would do.. pay bills start squirling some in a saveings account very slowly. And of couorse my donation to charity would be a nice one that year.
I think I would keep it. I could use help paying off bills. I would donate some to the heart and stroke foundation too. If it was Canadian money, I could tell if it was counterfeit or not. It is really easy to tell. I have no idea how to tell with any other type of money though.

If I found $500, I would definitely turn it in. That was probably someone's paycheck and they need it. But an amount like that?? Who except criminals carry around $100,000 in cash? I'd keep it in a heart beat!
