Well, It seems the rescue gal never got back to me, so OC didn't get neutered. I've got to find a group that will help do it. I wish I had the money to pay to have it done, but my vet wants 175 for a neuter. The good thing is the OC has decided that not only am I now his best friend, but as I don't have two functioning brain cells, I've decided to see how far I can go with him. He doesn't see to care what I do. I can pick him up, hold him again my shoulder, sit him on my lap. That is why he has to stay here with me. With him being blind in his eye now, he would not be able to stay a male and live as a feral. Hopefully I can find something this week. The one place the local spca told me about and gave the number to is now an Indian restaurant. I could use any information you have.

Thank you
Mary

Would this place be of any help to you? Virginia Kincheloe Spay/Neuter Clinic

Sometimes you can call these clinics to ask about the programs offered and inquire if they know of anyone that might help.

Some shelters might let you bring the cat in for neuter/vaccines and then allow you to foster them until a permanent home can be found.

Because he will let you hold him, could it be that he is not feral and just a stray?

If he allows you to touch him, you could put him in a carrier and close the door. If you are not physically able to get him to the vet or spay/neuter clinic maybe you could get him in a carrier and have someone take him for you.

So great that he trusts you and you are trying to get him help. You are right about the life of a feral with only one eye. Good luck.

Skimble,

That is the clinic that the spca gave it. The number (ending in 0800, I think ) was the Indian restaurant. I looked it up on line, and with the phone, and I called it twice and both the same place. Do you have a different number for them? I was counting on the to begin with, but no luck getting in touch with them. I'm pretty sure he is feral. He's been around for about 2 years. Most of the time, if he would even see us he would run, even if he was anywhere in the pastures. It's only been in the past 5 months or so that he would get within a 100 feet of me. Even then he would be poised to run. He would sometimes be in the barn eating when I walked in, but boy would he bolt the second he noticed me. then he started freezing when I was around, then he was staying in the hay loft, and I always talked to him, and let him see me holding and petting and loving on my other ferals that I adopted from a TNR group. Then one day, while he was eating, I decided to pet him. He let me, so a couple of days later I tried to pick him up and as he didn't rip me apart, I tried again the next day and actually picked him up into my arms and he was fine for a moment, then put him down, then the next day did the same and this time gave him some love and he was happy. The TNR group want to bring their ferals over for socialization. THere has only been one feral that I haven't been able to socialize. I tried for 4 wks before I released her, but she wasn't having any part of it. I see her and I know she is her to eat, but that is it.

Great idea, I called another local shelter, (it is a kill shelter tho), and they gave me the correct number for the low cost clinic. I called and left my name and number for a call back to schedule the surgery. The recording said that they were full for surgery for dogs thru mid May, but were still open for cats, Yeah...
If I can get OC in, then I will try and trap, the beautiful male Siamese, and another light orange cat that I've started to call Yellow cat, and another white with large gray blotches that I've named (what else) Blotches. Lucky for me, they are all males, so that will keep the cost down.

I allow anything to live on my farm as long as it doesn't hurt or kill anything else on it. I have racoons that come up to me at night when I'm in that barn and wait for me to put out food. The possums wait, watching till I turn out the light to eat, but they don't bother anybody else. I've started putting their food outside the barn, but they like the warmth of being inside. I have a breeding pair of redtail hawks that stay in my trees and every spring they fly around with their young. I also have a red fox that stay in a wooded area by the house, and it tends to behave itself very well, as my ferals hang out in that area and they seem very comfortable there. Everytime there is a new stray/feral animal around everyone wants to know if it is one of mine.
, It's getting to be kinda funny. Lucky for me, my neighbors know that for some reason they just show up at my place.
