Haggard's Church more involved than they admitted

It would appear it's now coming out that not only was Ted Haggard's hypocritical and "sinful" rendezvous more numerous than anyone wanted to admit; it would appear that his Church is also very, very culpable in trying to help keep it a secret. Sadly for them, it seems as though the young man they paid off isn't too keen on what "Hush money" is supposed to be for, as he's no longer content on staying quiet.

I just read an article this past week about Ted Haggard. It was pretty sympathetic towards him and I ended up being sympathetic towards him also because he was has had a very difficult time earning a living for himself, his wife and their 2 children. They said he is now hawking insurance policies.

I'll try and find the article I read and post it on Saturday.

Poor man. He didn't voluntarily choose his sexuality, you know?

The anguish that young man must have gone through. To be involved with Haggard while he gave some very condemning sermons on homosexuality.

I'm glad that the church has the position to help the young man.

This sort of flies in the face of that whole, "Homosexuality is a choice" hooey, doesn't it? One would think that nobody would want to be gay less than Haggard.

I dont know if the idea was to really help him or just to keep him quiet.

He certainly does a good job of victimizing himself, doesn't he!

Why would Haggard condemn homosexuality, if he practices it? It just doesn't make any sense to me that someone would do that. I feel bad for his wife and children.

I don't think he believes he's a homosexual. Rather he is plagued by sinful urges and the self-loathing he feels was reflected in the sermons he gave. It is difficult to give compassion to others when one is unable to deal with the same feelings in oneself.

From what I understand, the church did not know about the young man until after the initial scandal broke. If they knew before and ignored it, then I would have more of a criticism of them.

The church did take care of it to protect themselves, but I'm hoping that their efforts were exceeded the minimum to help the young man regain some control and happiness in his life.

That's the one that I tend to go with myself. Fairly typical, actually.
