My Zane does this sometimes with one of my slippers; Zane is almost 10 years old and was neutered before I got him.

I am just curious, do males make any mating noises? I notices sometimes Jake randomly as he is walking will make this noise, it's very low with a closed mouth sort of like a non vicious growl that is very very short...He will do it as he is walking, then make that noise and turn around and walk in another direction

He had that "look" in his eyes and I instantly knew what was on his mind. He tried to climb on me so he could grab a hold of my arm - I quickly shoved a toss pillow his way to deter him. Poor pillow...
A couple hours later he starts up again, this time he's after ME again - to the point that he would chase me around the house while making those amorous brrroows. Comical really, but he had to settle for he pillow.
In his case, his kitty hormones will settle down and are starting to already.
YIKES!!!! That would probably freak me out

The only problem I have is that my dog (Vino) will randomly decides he really really really likes one of my cats and will try to get busy
Cats and dog are all neutered of course, but the look on Vino's face is priceless

I was relieved to find this thread! I am currently fostering and will eventually adopt a 7 year old male neutered Flame Point Siamese/Orange Tabby mix. I have had him since September. Since December whenever he can get an afghan in his mouth and assume his position, he's a happy fellow for quite a while. It is so funny! Then he just rolls over and falls asleep. He is especially happy if there is a human leg under the afghan but he is not picky. I am so glad others have had this experience, I was worried why he was doing this. Otherwise he is just the greatest cat, very relaxed and calm.

This isn't just a boy kitty thing! Maia completely indulged in this exact behavior from 5 months till 2 years old! She would grab in her mouth a particular item of clothing, usually one of my favorite sweaters if I left it out, and drag it between her legs, then get herself adjusted and while kneading with her front paws, completely hump it with her back end! She grew out of it eventually, but I think a lot of it had to do with me hiding my sweaters from her because I didn't want them destroyed

Wow that is so interesting and surprising!! I can't believe a female kitten will do that too..

If spayed around 5 months, I wonder if Maia could have had some unbalanced hormones? Look what happens when women get early hysterectomies or go into menopause early. (which is why it's better to spay and neuter younger, so those hormone changes aren't happening to prepare the cat to breed)

As for cats doing this, just make sure the cats never grab you - or at least not bare skin as that restraining hold can could break the skin. If you do get grabbed, be careful removing more touchy cats or you could end up with a rougher bite and some scratches.
Clothes, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys wash. As long as no company are around to see, let the cats be.

And yes, that odd low meow/yowl/brrr is a type of mating call. It's that time of year that if there are a lot of unaltered cats in your neighborhood, you may even hear it at night...

Oh my gosh - my ribs hurt from laughing - what a thread

Seb does the kneading thing but no humpty dumpty stuff. Of course, he's been fixed for 12 years.
