excessive ear scratching / a fair bit of ear wax build up

so i got a new kitten of my sister about a month ago and her and my cat Mecha now get along great but I have noticed that she scratches her ears...Alot,
and she also has alot of ear wax build up.
what I want to know is it possibly the ear wax build up that is causing the scratching (she had bad ear wax when she came to us and I dunno how to clean a cats ears) or could something else be causing the ear wax and the scratching.
my other cat Mecha seems to have increased her ear scratching as well since we got Pandora but Mechas isnt excessive.

what could be causing this ear scratching and could it be anything I can see or does it require a trip to the vet straight away?

Off to the vet! She probably has ear mites and maybe even an ear infection or yeast infection in her ears. The mites need to be addressed by the vet. Poor thing must be miserable!
