The poor thing is wormed out!
Bugsy came home from the rescuer with an extra dose of Strongid paste, which I am supposed to give to him tomorrow.
The day he came in I noticed he had a whole bunch of sesame seed looking things stuck on his butt fur... on the top of it, there were little worms coming out, which looks to be tapeworm segments.
I know strongid doesn't treat tapeworms, and the rescuer has told me to treat him with pumpkin seeds.
My question is: Will I be overdosing him if I treat him with tapeworm medicine instead of the pumpkin seeds?
Should I just get another dewormer tomorrow, that treats everything instead of giving strongid to him again?

I have... I just don't know if it is strong enough...
I will not take him to the vet until the 1st, and I was hoping I could give him an OTC tapeworm med. instead of the strongid tomorrow... If I am going to put him through a dewormer, I might as well get a broader-spectrum one...
Any over the counter med (or from a feed store) that I could safely give instead of strongid?

not that i'm aware of. most OTC wormers are pretty much worthless [if not actually harmful].

Yeah - that's what I am afraid of... I am going to the feed store tomorrow and see what they have there. I will take my blackberry with me so I can log in to the forum and research it before I buy.
Anyways, If someone has any recommendations, I would appreciate - again, vet only happening after the 1st...

I agree no OTC stuff. Be cautious even with feed store stuff, as not always is the dosage correct - sometimes they'll have dosages for large animals, but when configured to a smaller animal, the dosage ends up high (if that makes sense).

I put a request for a prescription with my vet on 1800petmeds for Drontal. Since Lucky had a flea infestation not long ago, I will go ahead and treat her at the same time.
Thank you all!

That seems to be the general feedback. I like the fact that it is only one dose - how did you give it to her? did you use a pill popper or a pill pocket? Or just the old hand biting ouch trick?

Harley had to take Drontal about a month ago for tapeworms. I gave it to her in a pill pocket and she didn't even notice that she was taking a pill; she thought she was getting a couple of treats.

Hiding from my SS!
I had to give my boys Drontal last month for tapeworms. I guess I did it wrong but I got it in them and the worms are gone…

I just held them in the crook of my right arm and pried open their mouth with my right hand and poked the pill as far back in their mouth as I could with a finger on my left hand and then let them go.

I don't know anything about Strongid to advise on what you can give him with it.
