I'm so very sorry for your loss...I lost my baby boy, Sme, almost a year ago & I still haven't began to heal. You should go to the Crossing the Bridge forum to pay your respects to Suzi...ppl there can relate to your pain & help your grieving process. Good luck.

My daughter is always telling me that I worry too much about blind cords strings attached to things, leashes and collars. The things I've seen and experienced in 53 years of owning cats and dogs have made me vow to teach others not to leave dangling cords, ropes strings ribbons etc.these things WILL choke these little balls of fur in a second.never leave cats tied by they're leashes, around garage doors with no obstruction sensors, items that can topple and crush little bodies ,electric car windows that can be turned into garrottes when paws step on them,5gallon buckets of water or other fluids can drown helpless furbabies-for these things and more can destroy and kill not only our beloved cats and dogs but are dangerous to our human children also.

Thank you for sharing, My Nellie has been confined to a room in order to make sure she (and other cats dont eat her food) eats all of her food, and to keep her stress free while at work.  She sits on the new cat tree to look outside, but I caught her playing with the blind cord.  I pinned it up higher but then there is a loop when you pin it up.  I will have to figure something out. So sorry for your loss :-(

How totally awful.  I am so sorry for you & your kitty.  Mine got into one a few years ago.  I was there and ran for something to cut the cord but he got out himself.  I lost him yesterday to cancer but this is a good reminder for everyone. Thank you for sharing.

Poor kitten. How could she reach the blind cords? Sorry for your cat's death.

I walked into our kitchen today to find Suzi, our youngest cat, dead.

In the short space of time it took me to drive my son to nursery, she had somehow managed to get irrevocably tangled in the cord from the blinds on the window she has used her whole, short life to get in and out of the house.

After cutting her free and attempting to recusaitate her by compressions and breaths, I took her down to the local vet, still trying to do compressions while I drove. But she was long dead.

Looking back, I knew she was dead the minute I saw her, but denial and hope drove me to try, despite the obvious onset of rigor mortis. Suzi had been the runt of her litter, we had bottle fed her from birth. Now she's gone.

Any other cat owners who let their cats come and go via a blinded window, please learn from our tragedy and cut or otherwise deal with those  cords.

Rest now Suzi. We'll miss you. X

Hi there. Very sorry for your loss. I have been thinking about this the last few weeks. Looking at the window/blind cords, computer, tv and phone etc. Whenever I go out I make sure none that don't have to be are hanging around. One that my cat could get to if she jumped onto a table in my room I put around and around the thing it was attached too so she couldn't get to it and accidently hang herself. It's a very unfortunate thing that happened to u and I'm sorry. I'll make sure none in the house anywhere are dangerous.

I don't know if Suzi's mom still monitors this site. She lost Suzi a long time ago and may have moved on. I just wanted to let her know, though, that we recently moved into a house that has blinds. Because of this post, I am always very careful to hang the cords over a picture or curtain rod so that this never happens to us. Thank you for alerting the rest of us to this danger.

Best regards.

I know this tragic accident happened in 2009 but I hope Suzi's mom sees the outpouring of love, prayers & good vibes she has since been sent. I'm very new here & the warm feeling I have in my heart right now makes me feel as if I've found some long lost family I thought I'd never find. Thank you all for just being the good kitty parents that you are. This site is now my "go to" for all things kitty.

So deeply sorry about your kitty. I can't imagine how you felt. I dropped my baby off at the vet today for a dental exam and I'm worried sick wondering what's going on.... I have been taking more precautions in caring for my cat and I want to thank you for the advice. May your beloved kitty cat rest in peace and hopefully one day you'll be reunited again.
