We may have a person to take her, but just incase I wanted to get the word out that we just got a cat in last week that tested positive for Feline Lukemia. She was left in a box at our door with a lengthy note about how they found her. (I think they felt it was necessary to rescue her due to the sub-zero temps last week) She had a recent spay. She is not super friendly at this point, but she is still new. As I said we may have a resource, but if anyone might be intrested in helping her find a home, pleas PM me.

Well she had her 2nd FeLuk test just a couple weeks ago and it too came up positive. So she is positive. For now she is doing very well, but we no longer have anyone in mind for this girl. She is not a big fan of people right now, but she seems to want out to play with the other kitties but we obviously can't chance that.

Here is her pet finder link: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/dis...petid=12992836

The good news is that her white blood cell count seems to be holding steady for right now and she is holding her own. She is in a special isolation room, but there are a couple other cats in that room. She does get out of the cage regularly when all the other cats are put away. I wish I had a room to separate her in, but my 400 SQ foot appartment just doesn't have room.

Awww.. bless you for keeping a watch over this little one, and my
goes out to the little fighter. I think more people would be willing to adopt FL+ cats if they knew what to expect when caring for them. Most people are probably understandably concerned - will they catch something? Will their cats? children? other pets? etc. etc.

Does the shelter do any sort of education on what the possible owner could expect when caring for this cat?

If someone were willing to adopt her and needed education we would let them know what to expect. I think the hard thing is that she either has to be in a home of her own, or with other Feluk positive cats. To be totally honest my knowledge is limited on FeLuk because we just don't see it that often at our shelter.

I think the main problem with people not wanting to adopt FeLV cats is that they are afraid it will die soon, who wants to adopt a cat for jsut a few year? one thing I've learned though, no cat's health is guaranteed.

If ever need any info, Angie, feel free to PM me
