So... I usually work from sunday to Thursday.... I work the 2:30 to 11 p.m. schedule...

I knew that soon our department would be closing Sundays and I was under the impression that once that change was scheduled to take place, I would be notified, and we would be able to come to some sort of arangement for me to make up the day on another one of my days off...

I got a phone call Friday, at NOON, from a friend that I work with, saying that my supervisor wants to know if I can come in to make up the hours becuase we are closing this Sunday... I am in the process of moving houses and Friday I had things there that I needed to do and I also needed to go apply for financial aid for school that I start in less than 3 months....

I told my friend that there was no way for me to come in because I had the day planned from the time that I woke up till the time I crawled into bed...

So I figured that I would be able to come in today, and be informed of what day I would be working instead of Sunday....

Nothing.... not even a word of what I will be working, and my manager has no clue either...

So now my paycheck is 8 hours short, my days off to move this weekend are going to be completely screwed up because I was supposed to have off Thursday through Sunday, and now i have no idea what days I am supposed to work, and may lose my two days off in a row which is going to suck completely, because I go to school April 6th and will then go to school from 8 am to 2:15 pm monday through thursday, and then work from 3 to 8 pm monday through friday, and a whole 8 hours on Saturday.... I will have NO time what so ever to relax, and wanted to take advantage of seeing my family now while I can.....

Not to mention my work is DREADFULLY boring, and I have been bringing my laptop in and playing the sims 2 for almost 6 months now.... and tonight someone not only walks by and tells me to put it away, but then sends someone over to spy on me and make sure I put it away, but what she doesnt know is that she doesnt look as slick as she thinks she does because the person she sent is a good friend of mine and told me what she did....

So now I get to sit here every night twiddling my thumbs till it is time to leave because NOTHING ever happens after 8 p.m.

I can not wait.....

One more year and I will have my medical assisting and I will be pretty much guarenteed a job... no more of this office b.s. I cant stand it any more.... I am not cut out to work in an office.... I just cant do it......

Sorry for the long rant, but I need to pass the time some how......

Be thankful that you even have a job. There are many people in the USA and Canada who would take your job in a heartbeat.

I'm of the mind set that when you go to work you are there to work, not play computer games. So I can understand why they asked you to pack up the computer game. If there is nothing for you to do after 8pm, start asking for more responsibility to fill in the time. Another thought that may or may not work, would be to bring a school book with you so you can study in advance. Whether they let you read it is another matter.

I know all about job frustrations. I am so incredibly thankful that I have a job, a decent paying job for the area of the state that I live in. But I honestly dread going to work. I'm a customer service rep on the phone, and it is amazing, the kind people that I have the "pleasure" of getting calls from.

My job actually motivated me to get my but back in school and get a degree in something I actually like.
I'm so glad I'm back in school.

Hang in there. I know how it goes.

Playing The Sims for hours at your job??!! OMG! Such a reason to be fired! Your working on a life plan, don't get ahead of yourself. DO what you have to do to get there, and don't mock what helped you on the way.....

I know your pain because I do the same thing.... Nothing like being abused for 8 hours a day huh?

My problem is that I used to LOVE my job, when I was working in nursing. I woke up every day and could not wait to get to work because I love what I was doing....

I have been forced into this job, and its nothing but verbal abuse all day... I can not take it... I hate it here....

Some people can sit there and brush it off when people tell you that youre a waste of life because you are doing your job, but I cant. It follows me home. Especially not after comming from a place where I heard nothing but praise and good things from the patients I worked with....

Yeah, I know, people can be brutal. 8 hours straight of verbal abuse, name calling, getting yelled at and hung up on. I used to take it really, really hard. I actually like being a csr and helping the people that call in, but you can only take so much. And when you're told all day that something is your fault, that you're worthless and so on, over something that you have no control over, it gets pretty draining.

Just tell yourself that you're there to move on to bigger and better things. You're not making it you're life's career and before you know it you'll have your degree and you'll be back to doing what you really want to do. We're in the same boat, I'll be at my job for one more year while I'm going to school, then I'm moving 600 miles across state to go to another school to finish my degree.
I can't wait!

But hey, you have someone here who completely understands!

thanks! lol

I am thankful that I have a job... I just wish it was not this one...

It stresses me to no end....

I have made myself a mantra! "One year!"

I even have it in big bold black letters up on my desk, only I know what it means....

I miss doing what I love, and I only have one year more till I have to wait to do it again....

I've never had a job that bad, it must be miserable. When I've had a real stroke of genius and have everything running the way that it should, then the night gets really boring for me too. I'll check, double check and recheck everything just to have something to do, walk in big circles around the floor...and it's downright amazing how entertaining those little games on cellphones are when you have nothing else to do

Yeah... I have exhausted those... I have planned my wedding about 42 times.... I have planned my best friends wedding about the same ammount of times... I have gotten completely bored with my car forum.... I feel like I have seen everything there is to see on the internet!

bleh..............

I just wish I would have never bought my car. I didnt know I was going to get engaged and what not and have someone that would be willing to support me while I was in school, but I cant ask him to pay for my car, and with my health problems I HAVE to have medical insurance... Other wise my medical bills would be over 1500 ever 3 months

ive been on the phones my whole life, then i was finally in management for the past few years until my company closed and i was pushed back into being a CSR again. i was always the type of person who can brush it off and not get bothered by anything they say...but latley i been losing my temper and tell them like it is....i wont get in trouble for it cause its more collections than CS, but i never believed in being rude to them even if its over a debt, but lately they really getting to me, i get miserable even before i get to work, what keeps me going is i just look online and see the only other jobs in the area are phone jobs as well, so i just try to be thankful i have a job with medical and decent benefits. i have years of management/supervisory exp but i dont even know if i want to get back into it....problem is i cant figure out what i want to go to school for, def something medical...i was actually thinking surgical technician.

Over the river and through the woods...
Honey I understand exactly how you feel! I work as a CSR too. It was supposed to only be temporary but I've been there for 4 years now. It does wear you down after a while. For me, it's not just the abuse it's the monotony of it. You have the same conversation every day with 50 different people...it seems like the movie Groundhog Day sometimes. There are days I literaly cry because I just dread going in there. But, it pays good for this area (they HAVE to pay good or else no one would do it!) and the insurance is one of the best.

I've gotten to the point where I think what I'm doing is a waste of time. I have to make a concious effort to remember that even though I know something, obviously the people calling don't and I have to take each call as a separate task instead of thinking (OMG, 8 hours of this???). Hang in there hon, we do understand. I don't think someone who hasn't done the job really knows what it's like.

Oh, and for the people that think it's terrible to play video games at work, that actually is quite common in call centers. We can't bring in lap tops, but we can bring in the hand held games, and I've been keeping the library in business because I read constantly between calls. I wish we could surf the net but our computers only bring up company oriented sites.
You're chained to one computer for 8 hours (literaly chained by your headset so you really can't get up to stretch your legs) and if you have 20 minutes between calls you have to do something to keep from losing your mind!

I generally work Thursday to Sunday as well and I need to be busy to be enjoying it - when peak ends (I work in Hospitality) I just slow right down and have to drink tonnes of ice water. What are you expected to do after 8pm? Can you do filing, type up letters, send our reminders? more responsibility.

I was going to say the same thing. Just be thankful you have a job.

I had to pick up a part-time job b/c we've been eating savings for the last couple of months, and it's concerning me. I really don't like the job. I work for a company that does inventories. The hours STINK. When I work- I'm up at 4 am many days to get to where I'm going. I drive all over the area I live in. The job is SO BORING. The worst thing was sitting in Michael's for 5 hours last week counting wooden figures. And silk flowers! I was going crazy LOL.

But we really could use the money right now. It's helping to pay for my kids' extracurriculars. Because we were struggling to pay them, and I would hate to tell my kids they have to give up dance and violin lessons. Not to mention explaining to my 15 year old she can't go to Chicago with her school orchestra b/c we can't swing the $600 it's going to cost.

And I keep telling myself this is only temporary. I'll hopefully be in nursing school in August, and will leave this job well before then- dh is hoping for a promotion and a raise within the next few months.

There was an article on CNN.com. Something about a new Kohl's opening up somewhere in the country, and there were hundreds of people applying for $8/hr jobs at the store.
