I joined a Yahoo group that deals with liver problems in cats, so I could gather as much info as possible for Maverick's treatments. I received an email from the group moderator (supposedly) telling me that they required my name, address, phone number, email address and website address (if applicable) before I could post any messages there. I've never heard of any forum or support group asking for all that information, in order to post messages. It doesn't sound right to me.

Does that sound ligit to y'all?

I am in alot of yahoo cat groups and they only want your real name, location and email.
I am in crf,Bladder problems, feline asthma, feline herpes and sphynx groups and they did not ask for home address and phone number.

Sounds like phishing to me. Is there an email address or contact information for the forum? You should forward the email to them to let them know somebody is using them in a scam. Absolutely do not respond to the email with any personal information.

Since you already signed up, have you tried posting? If they really do want all that information I think I'd try to find a different group to join.

There was an email address I think, but it didn't look right to me (I'd have to go back and look). I have no intention of responding to the email, and I'm not about to give out my information.
I wouldn't even have opened it, but I thought it was the real deal actually coming from the group.

I did try posting, and I got a message stating that it had to be checked over first before being submitted to the group.

I've never had another Yahoo group ask for all that info, either. Something sounds fishy to me...

They just ask for the first name not the last name.
They have had some bad people come in some of the groups on yahoo.
I joined a sphynx group and got a email saying to join this site and it was porn.
I did not join.
I reported it to yahoo.

I meant is there a contact email address on the site where you can report this.

Many forums are moderated and all messages are checked before they're posted. I've belonged to some that took several hours before your message showed up, which could be irritating. TCS is really nice because our messages are posted immediately.

My bad!

I'm sure there is a way to contact the moderators. I'll check it out.

I'm sure that there is a need to have posts moderated, when there is so much junk out there that peeps are trying to post which aren't ligit.
I can understand why some groups have to do it. But asking for personal info just to join & post doesn't sound right to me.

PET'S NAME/ DIAGNOSIS

Thanks

FWIW, I had already been approved to join the group in another email, which also makes me wonder just why they're asking me for all this information.
