Is my kitten hungry? Or just a beggar?

My kitten is a five month old maine coon, so he has a lot of growing to do!

I have a feeder out for him with dry food, Royal Cannin kitten formula. He just kind of nibbles on it throughout the day, never sits and just chomps down.

Then once a day I give him 1/3rd of a can of Wellness kitten formula wet food. This is to give him a little bit of variety as well as something wet and hearty. I gave him 1/4th can when he was younger but he's already grown so I moved up to 1/3rd can.

Now after he eats the wet food he walks around the kitchen meowing (I assume for more).

Should I be giving him more food?

Or is he just a cute little beggar?

What size of can? If its 1/3rd of a small can, I would definately be feeding more.

Since he is just young, and has lots of growing to do.... if he's not becoming overweight I'd feed him more. It's possible he's not eating enough dry and would like more wet.

He could be a cute lil beggar too, but one way to find out. If you offer more and he eats it....he's still hungry.

You could also call your vet and ask what they recommend.

Personally, through research, I've adapted a free feeding type of feeding. I let Kizzy eat as much as he wants (he is 6mos) as I know he's a growing kitty (he's a ragdoll, so again a 'larger' breed) and he burns so much of it off being a kitty. But that is just what works for us.

I feed my baby Royal Canin for kitten at the moment too, but mine is only 3 months old, and I feed him twice a day with 1/3 of a can of wet while he eats as much as he wants from the royal canin. The vet told me I can give him as much as an entire can of wet food throughout the day, and as much as he wants from the dry. He is on the edge of being overweight though, so me feeding him 2/3 of a can is cutting down portions..Oh and by the way i'm talking about the bigger kind of cans..
Anyway- I think all cats beg especially if they smell milk or some kind of dairy..Lol my Jake loves lasagna just like Garfield and will cry and beg when we have it!!! It must be that ricotta cheese smelling strong. You should just measure how much total he is eating from the dry food to see whether he is getting enough from it...If he is not then you should give him more canned..
